grrr. my audio isnt working on my PC.

the speakers are plugged in, i know they work because they work on other devices, yet the PC displays them as 'not plugged in'.
its been losing audio spontaneously few a few months now, and i have no idea why it happens or stops happening.

i tried to use the headphones like i normally do when this happens but now they dont work either (yet they work fine on my iPod).

under 'sound -> playback devices' it says:

Digital Output Device (SPDIF Out) : Disabled *
ATI HDMI Output: not plugged in
Speakers / Headphones: not plugged in **

* enabling it manually does nothing either
** despite the fact i have plugged them into the headphone jack on the tower instead of into the one on the speakers


anyone have any ideas?

Is your soundcard onboard?

"Sounds" like an issue with your sound card or on-board sound. The hardware is probably on it's way out.
