They gave me an iPad 2 today.

Only a handful of people get to trial them and I'm one of them.

Anyone know any good tips/tricks with them or links to said tips/tricks?

Forget apps or games though. It's corporate locked so I can't download anything not authorized. Bummer.

I'm pretty sure 100lb. is illegal. But its the material commonly used for explosive practice shooting targets. Honestly, the material:blast ratio is ridiculously high.

I would have such a blast with that stuff man.

I'm considering replacing our desktop and laptops with 2 or 3 tablets to leave lying around the house.

Some of you don't seem to think much of the ipad so what do you think is more "worthwhile" and why. Real reasons not just "lol I hate apple" or "lol I hate google" etc...

Because I hate apple and you can use google on them. So I hate them lol.

I just think Apple products are horribly over priced personally.

What I would like to know is what would make say a Samsung Galaxy android tab better than an iPad 3 as far as features, functions ease of use etc...

Why should I lean towards one more than another. Windows 8 tabs are just around the corner as well.

Personally I like Android due to the open source. I hate propriatary things, and Apple is the king of that. If you jailbreak the thing, then it would be pretty sweet haha. Dont get me wrong, the IPAD is good tech, and has an amazing screen. However, if I were to ever get a tablet it would have to be Android.

I just joke around a bit, I'd love to have an iPad. I like most apple products, except the Mac computers. I have an iPhone and I just love it beyond words.

It comes down to this:

1) If the tablet costs $200 tops, go for it. Otherwise it's a ripoff.

2) You can just get a 14" laptop that will do more for you, instead of an extremely limited piece of hardware, that while it's nice and pretty and all that shit, isn't worth the money (500-700... really?). However, if you shit gold ingots, I guess it doesn't matter.

I don't care if it's an apple product, tablets are stupid.

I can perfectly understand how they might be very over-priced, but what else is it that makes tablets limited and/or stupid to you guys?

As near as I can tell we use the computers we have for:
1. Internet.
2. Storing photos.
3. watching videos.
4. Listening to music.
5. Photoshop.

That's it. And as near as I can tell you can do most of that just fine (arguably better) on either an apple or android tablet. Plus the tablet has the benefit of smaller, easier to use size, mobility, extreme ease of use and fun and possibly useful apps.

I honestly can't think of any reason to pick a laptop over a tablet based on those things.

It depends on what you want to do, of course. I need beefier hardware, so a tablet would only be in my possession if I was dicking around, got it for free, or got it for no more than 200 dollars.

No way you can do any of that "better" in a tablet. They don't have the power a laptop can have, just like a laptop will never have the power of a PC.

Tablets have one, and only 1 thing going for them, and it's their size. They are comfortable to use, but that alone isn't worth the extra money for me.

Think of it like this (I know you hate them, Metal, but imagine that you actually liked gaming in a computer ). Buying a tablet instead of a laptop, is like buying a gaming laptop instead of a gaming PC. That's how I see it anyway. The day they cost 100-200, I'll get one. Until then, it's another one of those "I'm cool!" items for me.

Plus if my memory serves, most tablets don't support flash(though the newer ones might, i just remember the first ipad didn't) so there goes half the good stuff to do on the internet. You also have to use the crappy mobile versions of sites(unless the newer ones don't, too lazy to check).

As for mobility, I guess that's their only redeeming factor. But even then i'd personally prefer the sit with a laptop on my lap or a smartphone in my hand.

Ok, but you guys still haven't given me any actual examples of how I'd be shorting myself with a tablet of some sort except for flash support which android tablets have.

Because I have to say over 2 days of using and comparing it to our desktop, laptop and netbook I'm having trouble finding something it isn't at least equal at. Most things seem to be either more convenient, faster accessing or both. Web browsing, emailing, messaging, to do lists, outlook scheduling, corporate email, music, video playback, youtube watching, facebook, looking through pics, notifications, wi-fi and mobile data access, changing settings, searching, organizing, filing, taking/uploading pics, highly focused/niche programs, finding and using useful programs etc... are easier, quicker, more comfortable and more convenient...

The one thing I haven't compared yet is photo editing software, but from reading a few reviews it looks like there are a few that might do the trick for what we need it for (at least for android). That bit is still up in the air though until I can test it. That part may fall way short...

I'm not a tablet fan. I've never even used or looked into tablets before because I'd always heard what you guys are saying, They suck compared to a laptop.

I've got to say that, overall I'm not seeing that to be the case at all so far.

I think the biggest examples of the difference between a desktop and tablet come here: with a desktop PC, its completely customisable. You can add more memory, a new graphics card, sound card, etc. You can swap out monitors in 5 minutes. The tablet has none of that to my knowledge. I dont think you can add anything to the iPad's internal components, and honestly that sucks to me. Also, you can't use a flash drive. That's a pretty stupid design flaw imo. As to power, it's a moot point. Most any desktop can outstrip a tablet when it comes to raw processing power, let alone with custom components.
