Was driving to school and was exhausted from work and homework. Didn't realize I was going 85 when I saw lights and heard a car behind me.
Pulled over, cop came over took my information. Asked me if I knew how fast I was going, I said no sir, but I know it was far faster then I should be. He sternly chuckled and said yes. Then asked why I was in such a rush.
Nearly broke down telling him that I have been up for 28 hours and have been going back and forth between work and school and I was just wanting to get school done and get home and go to sleep.
As I got half way thru saying that I didn't realize my voice was getting like...more and more emotional. At the end I told him that I was so tired and just wanted to pass out, and as I was saying that I was nearly on the verge of tears from exhaustion and stress.
He handed me back my license and insurance and told me he remembered being a full time student and working a full time job when he was my age. Told me that he had a rude wake up call when he fell asleep at the wheel after doing what I had done and stayed up for almost 2 days. Said he crashed and was in the hospital for 2 weeks.
Told me that he could tell I was a good student, and that I had no marks on my record and had a clean slate. And he could tell I wasn't lying to him and he even asked if I had my school on me, which I did.
So he told me he was letting me off with a warning and that I should be lucky since most cops would be quick to hand a ticket to someone my age. Then told me to drive the speed limit and that he really doesn;t want to see me on the road again if I pull another long stint with no sleep. For my safety, and other drivers. I said okay, and he gave me the clear to go.
Now, I finish more math that needs to be done for another class at 230 today. Then I go to bed...
