Our english teacher only used books that the other actually gave meanings for, but then gave us books that had no real meanings and wanted us to find some/make some shit up lol

the only cool english teacher we had left when i was in year 8-9, good for him i'd say, the place has gone to shit these past few years. so glad im at uni and not in that shithole

English is a fucking pretentious course, and the only reason I ever want to write a novel. I hope that someday, an english class will be discussing my book, just so I can burst in an say "no, the waterfall is not an allegory of human life and togetherness, it's a fucking stream of water falling off a cliff."

God I hated English so much. Which is sad since I excelled at that class. Only class I managed to complete with straight A's.

Doesn't help that I have been at a College+ grade reading level since I was 5.....

Shakespeare was fun because he taught me many complex words and insults. That's about all.

Also, I had a teacher in middle school tell me that the reason I didn't enjoy Gone with the Wind was because it was an intrinsically american work, whereas I was a foreigner who didn't understand the culture. Bitch, I hated it because it was a big ass brick of boring pointless monologues and douchey characters acting like entitled pricks, then complaining when they had to deal with life.

English teachers are some of the most self entitled people I have ever met in my life as a whole

I never had a problem with my teachers, I just found the subject really terrible.

The thing about English is that there is no actual standard. So really English teachers are just arbitrarily telling people that things about it should be a certain way, and as a result you can get marked down for shit that most of the world disagrees upon. There's no real grounds to it.

How can I prove you wrong over such a generalized comment?

I have slight problems with authority, but that never had anything to do with my disdain of my English teachers.
