No thanks. Especially once the faux black metal vocals kick in, I couldn't find the stop button fast enough.
Shotgun Dismemberment wrote:I dunno, thrash has always stricken me as has hardcore 80's punk, early 90's hip hop, 70's heavy metal etc.
I find all these genres to be extreme products of their time and its influences. Sure there's hardcore punk after the 1984, but it just doesn't compare to the raw, undiluted, visceral sonic bludgeoning that was a direct product of beginning enthusiasm and footholds into new territories of music at the time.
Likewise, when it comes to thrash, I find few really capture the feel of the early years, when thrash was defining it's sound. You got the big four, you got Voivod, Kreator, Death Angel, Coroner, Exodus, Testament even Pantera, and then in the following years all these bands carving their niches with their own characteristic sounds and takes on what was still an art developing.
I won't say that lack of originality is my complaint, as I listen to a shitload of grind, where it's not so much what you play as how you play it, so originality is pretty low on the list of what I look for in a band in order for them to click for me.
Maybe it's the soul that's missing for me... (where is I still find that soul prevalent in modern death and grind for instance).
I hope this all makes some sense.

I understand what your saying
But in reality thrash is an evolved form of hardcore punk.
Especially the drumming, as prevalent in all early thrash albums. Nowadays bands go with the more death metal approach behind the kit. Which almost totally kills the thrash vibes.
Bands like Sodom, Destruction, Exodus, and Overkill basically created the sound, and nobody can touch it anymore.
I wish I could articulate better right now but Im kinda drunk haha
Thrash is really easy to take elements from, but its very very hard to master /
This is all just IMO of course
