An interesting interview, and I agree. The pill has pretty much replaced the role of proper parenting among other things IMO.

It's all about the money, and it's sickening. In the same breathe, the complete degredation of the american education system is shocking and appalling.

Blame G. Bush for this, the No Child Left Behind Act has done a shit-ton to wreck our education. The obsession with standardized tests and lowest common denominator teaching ("well, if we make it too hard and the kids fail sometimes, they might feel bad") have made our educational system very weak. There are moments where you can tell a teacher has to just stop and spend 20 or 30 minutes explaining the most basic concept in a class, which a student should already know. I've seen this in my higher level classes, when a student who obviously has no idea what they're doing, wastes so much time asking questions they should already know the answers to and thus wasting the rest of our time and the teachers.

I would totally love to have an adderall prescription though.

Yeah I was one of the ADHD kids.

I didn't even realize the effects of the drug until I was in Junior High, so I stopped taking it around then.

I don't know if it's really all about money with that, but more taking the easy way out. Although there are a lot of drugs that are about money, there are even cases that conditions have been invented as a result of a drug being made(see:viagra).

All and all I think using drugs to correct problems like ADHD, minor anxiety etc are going to fuck us over in the long run. We shouldn't become dependent on this shit, we were well enough without it before.

I've been out of school for a long time, but I think an issue may be that a lot of kids aren't being taught fast enough. They can't focus because the information being taught is not only archaic but its being taught in the same manner as our parents. Slow and monotonous.

With the internet, and technology in general, the ability to find and access piles of information fast and efficiently makes the current education model ridiculously behind. Even video games, to an extent, have put many kids way ahead of the curve in problem solving, critical thinking, and intuition. When these same kids have to sit in a class that's quite literally, beneath their level, I have no doubt they day dream, fidget, and can't focus on the boring monotonous routine.

Also the age to grade learning system is really behind the times. Like Pariah said, your class or grade only moves as fast as the slowest kid. Holding back the others that more than likely should be in a class or grade(s) higher. Not all kids learn at the same rate and we shouldn't be afraid to excellerate or hold back kids that learn differently.
