I've been really enjoying this as well - despite it's flaws.
I put my back out last week, so have been stuck at home and mostly just playing A:CM on 360.
The graphics are hugely inconsistant - sometimes looking pretty damn decent, and other times looking pretty damn appalling. On some occassions it appears certain elements should have been placeholders waiting to be swapped out for finished assets
For the most part though, it actually looks pretty good - but the textures take too long to stream in. The torch doesn't help as it can make everything look washed out, and doesn't cast any dynamic light so makes everything look flat. It's a bit too dark to not use it, though.
I definitely get a kick from running around with a pulse rifle shooting xenos in places I recognise from the movie - Hadley's Hope was great! I admit that this helps somewhat in terms of the games faults.
So, graphics are weak, ai is poor, the other marines are largely forgettable and the motion tracker is basically unnecessary.
Happily, the atmosphere is very well captured, customisation is excellent, movement and shooting mechanics are great, audio is excellent.
The single player is basically a pretty dumb corridor shooter, but it's still fun to play - especially with a buddy along for the ride, and on Ultimate Badass difficulty.
The multiplayer is great! Motion trackers suddenly become absolutely vital as there's no dumb ai, and the customisation again is excellent - both for loadouts and appearance. It's actually much deeper than I was expecting, especially for the xenos.
TDM is much better than I was expecting (I was more interested in the objective modes before I played it), and Escape in particular is fantastic. Maps seem pretty good across the board, and playing as a xeno is a lot of fun - takes some practise, and is a little buggy climbing on walls etc. sometimes, but I've had some great moments playing for both teams.
So, I agree with a 7/10ish score. The actual game as it is, is solid. I think the problem is that, because of the franchise it's attached to, the disappointing aspects are taken a little out of proportion - which is a fair criticism, as the studios involved, and the previews, suggested somthing of a higher calibre.
I'm glad I picked it up, though. I can see myself coming back to the multi for a long while, and hope that the community stays with it. I will consider the season pass, but I want to know what all the content is first before I decide to buy it or not.
Lemon, there are upgrades for the xenos to get them to move faster which helps. I also found that each xeno has a short pounce (mapped to Y on 360 by default) - use it to close the gap while running up on a marine and it can easily put you within range for an attack
