So I need a new book to read and I think I've narrowed it down to these two. One is a collection of H.P. Lovecraft short stories and novels the other is Moby Dick.

So what say you SeC? Any of you guys have any experience or opinions on these?

They're both boring as shit.

I'd go with Lovecraft.

I'd go with Lovecraft.

Really? Damn well that's disappointing. Mind elaborating a bit on what you don't like about them?

The narratives haven't aged well, I just couldn't get into the stories no matter how hard I tried.

It's the same with Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson.

My taste could just be really shitty though, so I'd find other opinions.

ah right on. I've been reading alot of musician biographies lately and I wanted to take a break from that and get into some classic literature.

I'd be open to other good recommendations if you had any. The two books I had in mind were just what caught my eye at the book store today.

Always go for Lovecraft. His stories are fascinating. Moby Dick is fantastic, but so dry and boring. I have a collection of Lovecraft stories, and they're good.

If you want a perfect exemplar of his stories, look up At the Mountains of Madness

Yeah I was leaning towards Lovecraft. This is the collection I was looking at http://www.amazon.com/Necronomicon-Weird-Tales-Lovecraft-Commemorative/dp/0575081570

It's got "At the Mountains of Madness" and "Call of Chthulu" and a shit ton of others. There's a list on the amazon page in one of the reviews. It's a pretty hefty book.

Moby Dick is so very dry. I didn't finish it. I got about 200 pages in and I decided to call it. I think Milk said it well, his manner of speak is cumbersome. Ands thats coming from a guy who loves "A Tale of Two Cities."

BTW ever tried a tale of two cities? one of my personal favorites.

No I've never read that...I'll look into it.

And a friend lent me a copy of Faust by Goethe so apparently that's what I'll be reading next. Then I'll read the H.P. Lovecraft probably.

Yeah me too...except most of mine are all in french cause I got them from some book club ordering thing at school and I'd always be in french schools.

I have like 20 or 30 of them I'm sure.
