Pretty gnarly bass tone you got going on there. I like it.

It was okay. When record bass for the full length (which means rerecording bass for these as well) I'm going to try and get more distortion for bass, especially the lows. We used a guitar dist. pedal and a BOSS overdrive for this sound. Also a DI box to record a second clean bass line.

I have read that the "Death Metal" pedal gives a nice rumbling distortion when used on bass.

Ah yeah distortion and overdrives in general will remove some of the lows no matter what in my experience but yeah pedals tailored for guitar can be really problematic.

If you can get a hold of one, this little guy would probably solve all your problems.

I have one and it's pretty damn awesome. Goes from just a touch of grit all the way up to way in your face grind. Has clean blend right on it. They're pretty pricey though.

I have two distortions I use

Boss Metal Zone

And Dunlop Death metal

I want to find that Dunlop pedal to try. I've heard it's perfect for the classic grindcore bass tone.

what song would be a good example of the tone you're going for?

With my Dunlop I can get alot of different tones

I usually play scooped though, but through some mids in for some thrashier songs

I usually roll off the highs and bump my mids and lows. I let the guitars handle the highs.

Scooped most of the day haha

I love having the extreme highs and lows

I need mid punch. I like being somewhat in your face. I don't want to just hang out in the mud.

Yea I know what you mean

Sometimes I just need some mids

Something along these lines:

I also need to "train" our vocalist a bit, in order to get better growls, and from those growls, better pitch shifted vocals in general.
