Tomb Raider First Impressions

So I just used a VPN and unlocked tomb raider to play. Will update the thread as I play more. Play for around 10 minutes so far and the game looks great. I cant use tressfx though, I get a 40 fps dip when I use it. I am getting between 45-60 fps depending on the scene mostly maxed. I had turn down DoF, TressFX, and high precision. TressFX hair also looks quite bad in a lot of places from what I have seen.

Even though I have a huge (for me) backlog I think I need to buy this game.

5 hours in and it is honestly amazing so far. The cover system is just superb, you just crouch behind cover when you get close to it. No snap or button required. Everything else from gun play, to movement and jumping is also top notch. My only complaints are that the game is way too easy (I am even playing on the hardest difficulty) and that Lara becomes a killer way too fast.

I think I might pick this up

God damnt I missed the 10% off sale

Started a bit. Got up to the handgun. Puzzles are fairly well done so far, mostly fire ones. There are a few/more than a few QTEs, some of which you should watch out for. These are the ones that show a symbol to respond, which I didn't remember for a minute. So I died a few times on a melee QTE (F key) before I recognized the signal.

Combat is pretty good, bow is for silent kills and the handgun is serviceable.

The environments are well done, though a bit on the small side.

And done. I would estimate that took me around 13 hours on hard. Man what an amazing game.

Far Cry-itis?

i felt the same way in Far Cry, the story cutscenes felt so off compared to the gameplay. plus im playing on Warrior with no medicine and no suppressed weapons and its fine.

Uncharted has the same issue, a severe case of it.

In the cut scenes you're a charming, wise-cracking treasure hunter. During actual gameplay you're an inhuman tank of a mass-murdering machine.

Stupid, incongruent gameplay design.

in FC3 Jason is basically a traumatised dude who says 'oh shit' in pretty much every cutscene and freaks out over everything. in the gameplay he is hipfiring an LMG (yup... kid can hipfire an LMG) he just found at crocodiles and stabbing people with machetes, shooting bows, etc. its so disjointed.

That's actually the impression I got from the trailer and is a main reason that I didn't buy it.

So is this a reboot or fit into current lore.
