How is Age of Empires?

Is it much better/worse than Civ 5 for example? I keep hearing how good Age of Empires 2 was,and the HD version just came out on steam today,although some people have had lots of problems with it.


I want to get the double pack with AoE 2HD and AoE 3 Complete for like 27,but idk.


Or been thinking about getting Empire Earth Gold on gog.com for 3 bucks, it was supposedly made by the same people who did Age of Empires.

It's old school to say the least. Amass an army of deadly blobs while defending your own personal kingdom. If you like the idea of building an economy (collecting resources) and then using that to fund your army to attack your enemies, then you'll like it.


Now, half the fun is truly building up your empire, and battles while simplistic do require their own bits of tactics. Due to the unsophisticated AI, flanking with mixed groups could get you out of some deep trouble if you know what you're doing.

just don't go in expecting a Company of Heroes game or Star Craft. It's old, but its an iconic and nostalgic game IMO.
