This is terrible news.

I remember when it was summer in Animal Crossing, they were everywhere and they wouldn't shut up, it was extremely annoying.

Huh... I don't know if we get those around here. I don't remember any swarms when I was a kid.

Well I'm sure we have some types of them... Just not that swarming brood type.

I thought they were all the swarming type.

Cicadas are weird because I've probably only seen a few live ones in my life. But I've seen plenty of shells and remember hearing them throughout most summers in my life.

well according to Wikipedia the ones found in the states are the only ones with a super long life cycle of 17 years. Most other species are 2-5 years.

We have around 5 species in my area but they are pretty rare and mostly stick to the woods. No swarms around here. At least not in cities.

We have them where I live, I love hearing them when I walk around the woods in the summer. Very Happy
