Topic?

And why....this is important. Why?

Johann Sebastian Bach

Why? His understanding of composition/harmony/arrangement is practically second to none. His music is rich and layered and very complex at times but still a joy to listen to. He was a true master of music and he was a monster organ player too.

The Adli Corporation

The Adli Corporation

probably gonna have to go with AC DC, just because its always the first thing i think of when asked what my favourite band is Razz

Chuck Berry, for favourite musician. i put ACDC in the favourite band topic Smile

Keyser Söze

Keyser Söze

Napalm Death.

Why? Their music has always just triggered the strongest response in me...
It would be hard to explain it...

I honestly didn't expect this.

My answer would be exactly the same, except I'd substitute Rachmaninoff or Tchaikovsky for Bach.

among recent artists though, Geddy Lee. Purely on the basis on one song, he, Lifeson and Peart became idols in my eyes. 2112 blew my mind out of the braincase, that is true musical talent.

He does

Beethoven is the king of classical

Mozart was very simple, and ripped off tons of composers.

True story

Pariah

Pariah

He wrote music that has been held as a pinnacle of the genre for over 250 years. I don't think you can make the argument that he sucks.

For example:

Coldplay is rather creative. Coldplay sucks.
Blood on the Dance Floor is very creative. Blood on the Dance Floor sucks.

being creative and original =/= being good.

Peart is the one that came up with the concept of 2112 he kind of ripped of the premise of Ayn Rand's Fountainhead though...Alex and Geddy are in charge of the music which is awesome in and of itself.

I'm a huge Rush fan.

Hydra:
Peart wrote a better story in those 20 minutes than Rand (imo) has ever in her thousand page novels. The music alone is amazing, and it really made me appreciate them as a band.

Gil:
I can honestly say that was the worst piece of shit I've ever listened to.

Eh probably Joe Satriani. I like sci-fi a lot and I like guitars a lot. Satriani writes awesome sci-fi sounding songs with a guitar. And he's not just a shredder. i can't stand listening to hardcore shredding. Most things he writes are very melodic or have some kind of theme to them. He's like his own genre of music, or at least he encompasses many different genres through all the stuff he has written.

Chewy

Hard to say, I usually go all over the place with music.

Probably between STS9, The Grateful Dead, and Pink Floyd.

i second that. whoever thought a song about Sexting was a good idea needs to headbutt a mirror.

that song was so awful, I honestly couldn't look away. I ended up googling blood on the dance floor in google images, then just staring at those...things...and wondering what the fuck went wring with their chromosomes.

You mentioned them first!

No i can't stand it either...

I used them as an example! It's like invoking Godwin's Law! Nobody (sane) supports Hitler, but you can use him as an example.

I actually personally don't really care for a lot of Mozart's music, though I still acknowledge him as extremely talented. Same with Chopin. Bach, Beethoven, Burgmuller, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn I really all like.

As far as modern music goes: Danny Baranowsky, 100%, the guy who does music for Super Meat Boy, and the Binding of Isaac.

I don't even like Super Meat Boy but I fucking love this song.

Why do you think I did that?

He acknowledged him as talented. Big whoop.

Of course he was talented, never said he wasnt.

Just very very very over rated

Oh I wasn't knocking 2112. It's badass for sure I just wasn't sure if you knew about the Rand connection.

It is a very captivating story...someone needs to make it a book.

I know what you intended, I was just throwing in my little tidbit on Ayn Rand. That woman was a whacko, and I think she had a personal competition to see who could force more people to believe in bigger and bigger crocks of shit.

I haven't read any Rand so I wouldn't know. But yeah I hear her points of view aren't too popular. Also that her writings tend to be quite long and wordy.

I've read Atlas Shrugged, and that was enough to never want to make me read any of her works.

After I had a long discussion on Marxism and Socialism in Eastern Europe with my econ teacher, he loaned me Atlas Shrugged so I could learn the origins of the "other side" of the conflict. The first question he asked when I returned it was "did you hate it too?"
