I don't even know who those are.
But yeah, if it's a big developer that does mass appeal games, I don't see the point. Kickstarter is great for niche games and those are usually done by small-mid sized studios.
A game I'm currently playing was kickstarted I think (Expeditions Conquistador), and it's pretty damn good. However, it's obviously very niche. I would be surprised if it ever gets to 100,000 sales and I doubt most publishers would go for it without dumbing it down to trained chimp levels. Another good example is FTL.
Kickstarter is so easy to abuse though, so it has a bit of stigma there. I remember some story about a transexual making shit up about being sick with... something, and that he needed money for the medical operations/medicine so he could live. Made up some sob story to appeal to people and the social justice warriors (not that those needed it
). Turns out it was a bunch of bullshit and he just wanted to get his dick cut off so he was scamming people to pay for his operation. There were some suicide threats too, so the guy was obviously fucked in the head. I can't exactly remember all of it, but it should be in Destructoid's archive.
Ed: Well, I'm actually interested in Contagion. It looks pretty good.
