[BF4] Okay, this time for real. Who wants an SEC server?

All of us are pretty sick and tired of crap servers, that much I think we can agree on. The last I checked, prices from NFOservers.com are pretty reasonable, and if enough people pitch into a paypal account, we could easily fund it each month by tossing in a couple of dollars here in there when necessary.

That said, who here would be willing to lay down some cards to get an SEC server going once BF4 comes out?

Aren't the prices something like $1.50 a slot? a full 64 player server plus spectator and commander slots would be pretty friggin expensive.

If one person had to pay for it, then yes it would be expensive. Looking at a 64 player server, paying in 1 year incriments (doing so gives you 15% off total price) not including VOIP rental (do we honestly need that?)

The total comes to roughly $65.27

Considering Xbox Live costs around $50.00 a year, that's not too bad, not to mention, if we could get several people in on this, that means we could break up the amount amongst each person. Lets say just 5 of us decide to do this, that would come to roughly $13.00 for each of us to pay once a year. That's pretty good if you ask me.

Obviously I want to see how much the prices go for once the game actually comes out and more information comes around, but so far, I think it's a pretty good deal. Having six people in on the deal will make the total cost per person 11.21. So the more people in on this, the cheaper it gets for everyone.

If you guys are going to get something in the west coast, I am going to be pitching in something.

Played with Tom in beta once and had 200 ping'ish. Probably not a good sniping ping, but I could fly and ground play decently. So I might jump into US servers once in a while.

I was thinking of putting it in Dallas, since it's pretty centralized for everyone. Would of course have to discuss it with you all first and see what you think.

That said, I'm game for this if more of ya'll are. Preferably I'd like to have at least 5 people willing to commit to this to keep the costs down for all of us.

it's actually more like 140 bucks each way for the year.

I might pitch in if others do. My only worry is keeping it populated. Mills had some troubles when he rented a server on 360 for BF3. And jumping on and playing just the 5 of us to try and get the server kickstarted whenever we want to play would get old pretty fast. Would also hurt our SPMs.

If others are on board I'll pitch in. Depends what you guys want to do.

140 a year? I was thinking 60'ish per month.

Thats nothing.

Like I said, I want to wait to see how much the servers will cost when the game finally releases. At this time, NFO is only listing the ranked servers for pre-order. I also want to talk with some other guys online to let them know so that they may be able to bring their friends along as well.

@Ante is that a universal price or from a specific vendor? I need to do some more research, but NFO has always been good to me in both BF3 and BF4 in regards to the stability of their servers (I never had much issue with them in beta surprisingly enough)

Month to month, it's way more expensive to pay for the servers that hosts 64 players. That's around $75.00+- from NFO (these numbers are what I just checked)

Paying in 12 month incraments lowers that to the $60+- and you only have to pay that every 12 months (so roughly $13 per person if split among 5 per year).

I just went through and set up a preorder on the NFO website.

140 a year isn't bad but it's a big chunk of money all at once.

Where's the additional 70+ coming from? Unless I'm seriously missing something while picking out the options, I haven't even come close to reaching $140 a month for the servers.

$71 a month average. actual payment is $856... split it six ways and you get....

That sounds more like a server price. Was thinking it was too cheap.

Ah, okay the fine print right? hah. Okay, I'll concede that point. (I suck at math, what can I say) Still, breaking it up amongst several of us will make the cost much easier to choke down IMO.

It's up to you guys, either month to month or in bigger chunks.

StormEye

To decide rental option, we just need to see how many people are willing to pitch in to begin with.

I am willing to go for bigger chunk if we can get it going.

Artimise Flare

That's what I'm saying, I need to know how many people want this. If there are too few, there is no point. The whole populating the server thing is a different issue entirely.

Alternatively, to keep the cost lower, we can start with few max players for the server. May make it easier to manage and get people to come in and play as well.

StormEye

StormEye

Unless you really want max player server, I actually think 32 map sizes are best in most BF series. Was playing mostly on 32 servers as its something that a player can have some impact on the overall flow, while keeping team efforts influential.

So, we can go for 64 if we get more people, but I am all for 32 if that is going to be the case.

Or, if you want a little more crowded chaos, 32 map size with 48 player was interesting too.

Again, up to you all. Certain maps and certain game modes work better with less people. Also whatever is more affordable/feasible for ya'll will supersede what we'd like in the end.

Ultimately, I want someplace for all of us to have fun and be able to do as we please without having to worry about badmins screwing things up.
