So the year is almost over. I've read some folks shitty moments maybe we can share some great moments. I'll start.
As most of you know I coach soccer and both of my daughters play and on different teams. My oldest daughter plays on team Thunder and has become our number 1 goalie. So once again we make it to the championship game at the end of the year tournament. This is our 4th time here and we have never won so the pressure is on. Most of the time we Start my daughter in goal and take her out in the second half so she gets field time as she also likes playing as a forward. This game we keep her in goal all game because if in the even regular times ends and we are tied then it goes to a shootout and whoever ends in goal has to be the goalie in the shootout.
We had one of the best games all season and it was an epic game. The first half ended up 0 to 0, in the second half we score but then they also scored shortly after, and this happened again so we ended at 2 to 2. Time for penalty kicks. My daughter was upset because the second goal against her she should have stopped so she was discouraged. She was very upset at the end of regular time and told me she wasn't going to do it and she couldn't. We talked away from the team and I gave her some private words of motivation. Then her team rallied behind her and told her she could do it.
So the shoot out. We select 5 girls to take penalty kicks, and they do as well and we alternate. At the end whoever has the most goals wins. a LOT of pressure. The gal is huge and it's very hard to stop these kicks. Our first girl steps up and we make the goal! Their kicker steps up and I know this girl has a strong leg. She kicks it and..... My daughter grabs it out of the air! I swear to god I jumped ten feet in the air and yell! We step up and make another goal, They step up and kick it over. We step up and they block our shot. They step up and score. We step up and make it. Now if Rhianna can block this next one we win. And what does she do, She knocks it out before it can cross the line. We just won the tournament.
It was pretty awesome and I couldn't be more proud of my daughter for stepping up like she did. I can only imagine the stress of standing there with all eye's watching you! After she knocked it off we all went nuts. I think I might have run over one of my players when I ran to grab my daughter in an epic hug. My wife said it was like a movie because I ran and she leaped into my arms.
It was an awesome day that I will never forget!
My wife took a picture. There I am surrounded by the team holding my daughter. Yes. I teared up when I first saw this! HA
