Camrys can't handle for shit in the snow.... Probably because they have so much fucking power.

So is anyone else as pessimistic about snow as I am? I hate the stuff, it just makes driving 20 times more dangerous. Although I really want to find an empty parking lot and slide around in it....

I dont have my license yet but i've been in some near death experiences because of the snow the stuff does scare the shit out of me aswel... Were getting like 3-6 inches tonight. Just had a 12 inch storm about two weeks ago.

We're just starting to get a significant amount here. It's been snowing since I woke up, and it doesn't look like it is supposed to stop any time soon. It's supposed to keep snowing a shitload all week.

People need to learn to stop using their brakes in the snow. You'd think Clevelanders would be accustomed to driving in it by now, but there seem to be a good number of people that drive around like cowards, going 20 under and hitting their brakes for no damn good reason.
That's the only thing about the snow that's dangerous for me: other people.

Um, how else would you stop? Do the hockey player stop type thing?

Or are you just talking about when people slam on their brakes when they start sliding?

I do think it would just be fun if there were no other drivers. I enjoy sliding around corners on empty roads.

i almost got run over a few weeks ago in a few inches of snow. excuse the language:

this 4x4 came down the lane i was walking up (going to snowboard at my mates farm) in complete control. we leaned into the hedge and he went past no problem.

then this dumb bitch came down in a 2 wheel drive car, without snow chains. she had her brakes on and was steering hard but not turning. she had NO control and as she passed she yelled 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON THE FUCKING ROAD!?!??!!'

considering at the bottom of the hill theres the main exit from the motorway, shes lucky not to have had a crash.

that pissed me off so much. people shouldnt drive on snowy back lanes if they dont know what to do.

Pop it in neutral if it's an automatic. This takes the drag off the wheels. Still requires a bit of breaking, but you can anticipate a stop and avoid a slide that way.

I like the snow for 2 reasons:

1. School cancelations
2. Shoveling people's snow for $$$

dont get me wrong, snow is awesome. but people are dangerous in it a lot of the time.

I wish I still got school cancellations. It takes a blizzard and a half for my college to close.

And thanks for the tip Zombee, I'll keep that in mind.

No problem. It has saved me many times.

Snow doesn't worry me (well, the other drivers worry me) but I have a healthy fucking respect for Ice.

I pulled into a Circuit City once in my dads big ass Ford truck. It was slick so I was moving slow, foot off the accelerator moving at idle speed (maybe 10mph). Pulled into a stall in the parking lot but the truck wouldn't stop, just started drifting slightly sideways. The parking lot had a slight slope to it and it was just sliding. No steering. No brakes. Slow enough if I considered trying to put my leg out the door to stop it.

It slid about 7 empty parking spaces straight into the side of a small pickup. My dads big ass Ford got a small 50 cent piece sized dent in the bumper, but the entire side of the pickup was crushed in.

I also drove straight into a dirt embankment doing 55 once because of black ice. That was a hard fucking hit...

Holy shit metal O.O you get hurt at all?

Metalzoic

Metalzoic

The only thing hurt in the first one was this chicks pickup.

The second one totaled my car, but neither me or the chick with me got hurt. Probably because we went straight into the guardrail which probably slowed us down and cushioned the smash into the dirt wall.

Ripped the guardrail and posts out of the ground for quite a ways both directions too...

We got about 6-7 inches of snow where I live(NE Alabama) and the whole area is practically shut down. I was off work Monday and Tuesday because the whole base my IT company supports shut down, we all have liberal leave policy in effect through Friday. I called in today because the whole road I live on is a solid sheet of ice, and I would be trying to drive my Mustang uphill trying to get out. High today here is 26 so might be calling in tomorrow too.

Is that normal for winter there?

Bama Psycho

Bama Psycho

Nowhere near normal here...I think the biggest snow we had last winter was about an inch. We've had 2 so far this winter of more than 3 inches.

Makes sense that everything grinds to a halt then. The same thing happens in Seattle...
