I lived in San Diego for a year. I'd kill a small mammal for some authentic Mexican tacos. I don't think there are any here.

We have quite a few good Mexican places here. But they don't compare to authentic Mexican food.

Yeah, Mexican tacos are amazing. Had em a few times when I went out to.....dammit. Can't remember the name of the place, but its in that mexican town right outside the border not to far from San Diego..

If you guys ever come by, ask the people for good taco restaurants. You don't want to run into one of those shitty taco carts (some taco cars are VERY good, mind you) with yellow colored tortillas. You'll live in the bathroom if you eat one of those.

That's something I actually like about my country... it has plenty of different food. As in, a shitload of it.

"Hay" in this case is you asking where you could find a taquería. It's more of a "where", than a "to be". Sorry about the confusion.

"¿Dónde hay un restaurante de tacos?" Would be you asking about any taco restaurant. It gives the idea that you don't know the surroundings and are asking about any restaurant.

"¿Dónde está el restaurante de tacos?" works too, but in this case it would be like asking about a specific restaurant that you are already aware of.

"Ser" doesn't apply here, because it's used for persons.

"Yo no puedo ser así" for example. Here, you would just be saying that you can't 'be'.


Let's see. Some sort of tl;dr:

"¿Dónde hay un restaurante de tacos?" Right.
"¿Dónde está un restaurante de tacos?" Wrong. You can't use "estar" and its conjugations that way. (with that "un") Edit: On second thought, this one is a bit strange. I mean, you could use it and may even hear someone saying it. But it sounds strange. To get rid of confusion, just don't use it xD

"¿Dónde está el restaurante de tacos?" Right. You can use "está" here, together with "el".
"¿Dónde hay el restaurante de tacos?" Wrong. You can't use "hay" here.

I'm sorry that I can't get technical I'm terrible with that. Of course, when it comes down to it, any of those 4 sentences will get you where you want, since a mexican will understand what you mean even if you use the wrong sentence.

H its all good, this can all help me learn. And ya i knew either ser/estar wouldnt work, but i always forget which is which. Such a confusing language with the conjugations.

And I'm not sure I can say it's that. I'll just give you some examples.

"Puede haber" - > There may be.

"Puede no haber" - > There may not be.

"Puede haber comida" - > There may be food.

"¿Tienes algo de comer?" - > Do you have something to eat?
"No sé, puede haber comida en la cocina. Iré a buscar." -> I don't know, there may be food in the kitchen. I'll go take a look.

One question Ars: Does "Mi grades huevos" mean what one would think? I don't know much spanish but my friend always says that, but it just seems a little odd because I thought huevos ment eggs.

Yes, there's a word. It's "brillante", which can be both 'brilliant' and 'shiny'.
