I'd like to put more RAM into this computer because I keep maxing out the 8GBs that I have and would like to up it to 16GBs but I'll be damned if the prices aren't outrageous. It doesn't help that I have DDR2 RAM and not DDR3 which, while not a whole lot cheaper, is still better priced than DDR2 is. Neutral

There is no need for 8GB of ram on a commercial computer let alone 16.

You would have to do an INSANE amount to even use half of that. You would have to be playing SC2, editing a 1080p 1 hour movie, 15 tabs open, and running even more to break something like 6GB. Also Why are you getting DDR2 ram. That stuff sucks compared to DDR3. (By any chance could I know how much ram you have now?)

His motherboard probably only supports DDR2...

That is a lot of RAM but I know video editing can use a shitload up even without multi-tasking. No harm in getting more than necessary.

The prices are a lot better than they used to be. It used to be like $50 just to get a half gig.

I remember that and that is the reason why I only have 2.5 GB of RAM.

My motherboard only accepts DDR2. I'm planning to do a computer upgrade sometime later in the year so that I can play Skyrim when it comes out.


I've got 4 sticks of 2GBs right now and would like to get two sticks of 4GBs so that it would put me at 10GBs of RAM.

It's at 50% right now but when I start rendering videos it jumps to 80% and when it gets that high the computer gets almost unusable.

Wow. That sounds like the program you are using is using way to much ram since it is only 720p video or your graphics card sucks. Also could I have a link to your channel?

The graphics card is a little old, it's a Radeon 4870, but it should still be plenty fast enough for video editing but Adobe Premiere, which I'm doing the trial for, doesn't really support radeon cards if I'm not mistaken.

That is why it is using so much ram. Go get sony vegas 10 for $80. Adobe Premiere sucks for video editing when you have a radeon card.
