Basing your entire campaign out of a quote out of context? I thought politicians doing this during election season with commercials was bad, but this is a whole new level of pathetic.

Yes, I'm quite sure Obama regards unemployed people as literal bumps in the road for us to trample underfoot. He in no way was using it as a metaphor to say "Sorry guys, but there's no easy way out of recessions and there's always gonna bad on the way to good" /sarcasm.

Seriously, Obama says in a speech "there are bumps in the road" to economic prosperity and this ass hole is acting like he called unemployed people useless bags of shit.

It's like if he said "no pain no gain!" and then mitt romney made a campaign video with a bunch of unemployed people saying "I'm not just a pain, Obama, I'm a real person" and then showed a bunch of cute puppies in the pound.

Politics is one of those things that no one will ever be able to truely understand.

The mayor of Philadelphia wants more money for are broke schools because we just laid off a ton of teachers(1500 i believe is the exact number). His solution is to put a tax on sugary beverages (2 cents per ounce, will proably get atleast 1 it was voted on today.) Now what happens when those kids parents lose their job because their affected by this? Also his stance was you're either for the children or you're against them, nothing against what might happen to peoples jobs.

Now for another story thats happening our district attorney(I believe that's the title) wants to build this new multi million dollar multi purpose building to make the whole legal process go faster. They had a city council about it and one thing he said was "Well if we don't build it now we will just have to use more of the citys money to build it later" as if there was no point in the meeting.

I don't get it if we are as broke as they say can't we stand doing things slower for a while like we've been doing?

So confuseing...

I think the best thing to do in a recession for the average guy is to try and ignore it. Obviously be economical and efficient in your spending, but keep in mind the economy will never recover if no one is spending any money.

I think a lot of people get an emotional response out of politics, similar to in sports.

Thats why you see a lot of extremism these days, politicians try to radicalise, making their supporters even more extreme. Its clever, because it increases voter turnout, but you end up polarizing and dividing the nation.

I think there should be poll quiz. You have to answer some basic stuff about the constitution and the platforms of the two major candidates running in order to vote. That way you have to at least put some effort into voting. Who cares if it reduces voter turn out? Quality > Quantity.

I like that idea, but i think that counts as disenfranchisement.

One of my favorite quotes is...

"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter." - Winston Churchill.

Yea, that sounds like a good idea. I mean, someone should've tried that before. Especially in the South, where it would especially stop black people from voting because they weren't afforded an equal education. Good idea!

I just think the best place to stay in politics is in the middle. I myself lean more towards the conservative side of the spectrum, but I also see the flaws in many Republicans. That said, there are plenty of flaws on the Democratic side too. I'm just hoping someone gets elected who can do a damned thing about the economy. 3 years later and Obama's really gotten nothing done. If he had solved anything, I'd love the guy, but he hasn't won my approval. Not that it really matters haha.
