I'm going to start playing some Warhammer 40k tabletop. I've wanted to play for years, but my money was a bit tight back then. Now I haz money.

I have a friend who just got into it, and is trying to get me into it for the sole purpose that I have a job and he doesn't. He of course was trying to use me for my money, just without saying it directly

your friend isnt so smart why would you geta 40k warhammer when you are already getting a flail?

40K tabletop is an AWESOME game. I have about 4000 points worth of a Space Marine army. "For the emperor!!!!!!!" I play as the Crimson Fists. I will often tell my opponent they are about to get fisted by the emperors chosen. Bend over and enjoy! HAHA

I saw a new Warhammer video game coming out called Space Marines.
Anyone heard anything?

Yea I've had my eye on that. I get the feeling its not going to do well as I think it is coming out the same time as Gears of War 3.

Well you do spend a lot of money. It's set in a Sci-fi type of setting. And you control and army battling against another army. A typical game consists of both sides having arounf 1500 pts to creat an army list. Then you field your army in hopes it will destroy yhe others. Your army is represented by plastic mins and thats where the expensive part comes in. I think I have around 3000 pts worth of figures and tanks and it cost me arounf 500 bucks over the course of a few monthes collecting it all.

Yeah, it looks like a lot of fun, but I don't have the money, patience, or right friends to want to maintain all those plastic figures lol.

Shinma If you are in New York I gurantee you have lots of stores that carry Games Workshop products and you can go in and just tell them you want to try thr game out and youll find lots of people willing to share their stuff with you so you can try it out.

I want to play Chaos under Khorne. I was thinking of this, http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440167a&prodId=prod1090186&rootCatGameStyle= as my starting purchase. Or I could get some Khorne Berserkers, some Chaos Space Marines, and possibly a Lord. But it looks like I get a better price per piece ratio with the battleforce.

The battleforce is definitly the way to go. You'll need to get the Codex for them as well so you can start building your army list. I would get the codex first so you will be able to figure out what you want and then buy your figures.

I don;t remember my exact list as it has been a long time since I've played but my force is lead by either Pedro Canto attached to a 10 man squad of Sternguard Vets, or I will sometime run a Chaplain in terminator armo leading a 5 man squad of Close combat terminator marines. These guys are bad ass and you are screwed if I close into close combat with you.

I also field one dreadnaught, 3 units of Space Marines, ! squad of assault marines, and a squad of Scouts with sniper rifles, they all come on the field in Rhino transports, and the leader comes in on a land raider. I got for a fast mobile force centered around my leader.

No I haven't played yet. I'm also going to need some dice, a range ruler, and some terrain. Yeah. I'm about to go downtown to the comics shop and pick one (codex) up.

I also seen that I need to get the Daemon codex as well.

Really? I've never run chaos but that some crap if you have to have 2 codexs to run them........ But typical of Games Workshop. Honestly Grey you should see if ou can try the game out before you buy a lot of stuff. It can be an expensive hobby to not like.

You just need D6's for the most part, and you can use a tape measure for most of your measurments. Don;t buy the expensive templates. I might have an extra set I can mail you if you get into the game.

Well... If I want to run Daemons I need it. But. I have played tabletop games before and I always loved 'em. Where would I be able to try and play it at? And I didn't know I could use a tape measure. I thought W40k had it's own way of measuring. And taht would be really cool of you to do that.

The games workshop site should have a list of the locations by you that carry GW products and everyone that I have always been into if you ask will set something up for you to try it.

Nope simple tape measure is all you need for your measurments. Besides standard D6 you'll also need a scatter die, and let me look tonight becuase I think I have an extra set of templates and an extra scatter die. If I do I'll send them to you.

Well... That sucks. I just called a store 10 miles away from me and they say they only have two people that play it, but there are other shops around me that have people that might still play. Soo. Here's hoping.

Hmm Interestng. There is a pretty big 40k group here in Louisville so I am pretty lucky I guess. Hope you find some more players.

Is there anyway to play the game over the internet? Or is there like a game that play's just like the tabletop?

No you really can;t play it by mail, or over the net because of movment and line of sight will never match up for both.

Not sure of any vid game that is like it. Part of the fun for me with 40K is playing with a live person and trash talking and everything.

i was sure i saw an onlien warhammer thing in the ads somewhere, could be a fluke though
