i need help with advanced mechanisms

i have been reading about all the advanced mechanisms that can be made to protect you home/make thieves pay for their trespasses

is there anyone on here that could give me some help with making some crazy redstone machines

apparently you can make an elevator but i'm more interested in the death traps

Just randomly put a hole to bedrock in the middle of darker path areas, with cacti and such. Or, place an iron block, make a clock behind it attached to a dispenser, and they'll get shot in the face until they die when they try to mine it. False "secret entrances" in water work well too. Make a water pit, then put a sign below it, and make it look like it goes down into another place, but have hole below it go to bedrock, so when they try to use it, they fall to their death.
