Meaning you can only use M16 as US and only use an AK as Russian forces. I think it's a stupid idea. Sure it's more realistic, but DICE said they would not sacrifice fun for realism. And I don't find it very fun when I can only use certain guns depending on my spawn. It will make unlocking attachments on guns a pain.

That sounds like a balancing nightmare...

exactaly. this isnt good

I think it's cool.

Ars Diaboli

I don't mind, but if there are many players against this they might as well get rid of it.

D

I think that's awesome.

Cardboard Fox

It's an alright idea, but it's going to be really hard to implement without upsetting balance.

Kitsune

I have mixed feelings about it; while I think it's neat that I'll be able to tell enemies apart a little easier based on gunfire (unless they have taken a friendly weapon, obviously), it could possibly create balance issues.

Relax people. only the first weapon in each tier is faction specific. Any guns you unlock after that can be used by either side.

Dropped Da Soap

Wait wait wait wait WAIT.

Wasnt it several months back on this site, that some of our own members were wishing BC2 had faction specific weapons?

D

Balance is an issue anyways so I don't see faction specific weapons making it any harder than it already it.

If it's only one gun, then what's the point in restricting those guns from the other team?

I like faction specific weapons.

This is DICE we're talking about, here. If the fans want balance, they get it. How many times did they tweak the BC2 guns until people stopped complaining? I'm pretty sure they have a good idea of how to make it work.

It's one gun per class.

M16/AK-74M
M4A1/AKS-74
M27/RPK
MK11/SVD

Only one? Surely they'll have more?

Still it's a stupid idea.

Your point?

Artimise Flare

This is how it was In BF2. The M16A2 and M4' were US exclusive as were the AK101 and Ak74u were exclusive for the MEC. The M16 was more accurate at range but did less damage and the Ak101 did more damage but had less accuracy.

The guns were pretty well balanced as far as faction specific weapons go. All unlocks afterwards were handled with unlock points an were available for either faction.

I actually really like the idea, takes me back to the good ol Counter Strike days... Makes sense too, given that they DO use different weapons.

As long as it's balanced.

Im telling you, its more like MoH. You just cant deny the facts.
If it is, you will be able to unlock all guns for whatever side later in the game. The way MoH was set up had the same class-specific unlock system, where one of the last unlocks was the ability to use all weapons for that class, whether its for your class or not.

I know it's not happening, but if there were faction specific weapons, wouldn't that make thngs easier to balance since the developers would know which guns would be facing each other? Seems like there would be fewer variables to deal with

Auto-shotgun buff. MG3 nerf. AKS nerf. Hell, practically every nerf they've done has been competely unnecessary, except perhaps the M60, which is awful now. Why didn't the POS that is the Uzi get a buff? Or the T88 LMG?

Don't even get me started on Vietnam.

This, and don't forget attack choppers.

Hold on a sec....Helis....Still beating that dead horse. O Zillah!

*Snaps Fingers and Zillah takes the Apache out with a AT4*

And that wasn't even me on the AA Gun. Choppers suck anyway.

But back to the guns. See the game is named Battlefield 3.....I don't see Bad Company anywhere in the title. And in Battlefield Games they have faction weapons. Don't like it, Don't play it. But this is Battlefield Bro. Man up or get out.

I'm going to agree with GM here. This isn't a Bad Company spinoff. And it's just one gun per class to add flavor. I don't see the need for all the hate.

Artimise Flare

Artimise Flare

Was always like that if I recall back in BF2142 and the previous games before Bad Company. Never had a problem with balancing problems, in fact, there was only one weapon that I can recall from Battlefield 2 that everyone unanimously agreed was disgustingly OP the Medics G36e and in Battlefield 2142 it was, yes, you guessed it, the assault medics VOSS-LR.

I really don't mind the change, they're going back to their roots and the old tried and true formula was a great one at that. With the changes they've made to try and balance medics and other classes, BF3 certainly feels like the old BF2 I grew up playing, brutal, unforgiving, and simply awesome!

TheGM

TheGM

You gotta agree.

It is Axiomatic!

I dunno why, but when I read this word I thought of...

Metalzoic

I like this, but I would like it more if it was more than just weapon. Make each side have their own specific arsenal with only all kit weapons usable by both teams.

Kenshiro

Kenshiro

As long as the unlock are OP, who cares?!

JK.

But the Voss was still fucking cheap.

The only real raging inbalance (to me) in any previous BF game was the Krylov vs SCAR 11. Krylov wins.

Artimise Flare

Artimise Flare

I remember that lol. I loved being the PAC because the Krylov was awesome. Didn't pack much punch but it was accurate as hell.

Still te Voss LR was beast, no other weapon made me rage more than that gun back in 2142. I'm sorry, you should die if I pump 30+ rounds into you at near point blank range at 700RPM'

I also tended to use the default sniper rifles back then due to the fact they had larger magazine capacities. 2142 with all of it faults was still a blast to play. Oh the nostalgia!

The Adli Corporation

The Adli Corporation

thats how it was in BC1 as well, any weapons you unlocked were for both sides.

each team had one faction specific weapon per class.

Ron Swanson

Ron Swanson

I could go either way on this one. It really comes down to balencing whatever guns each faction has. So long as its done right it won't be an issue, and it does add some atmosphere when each team has their own guns.

Also, Super Mario RPG was fricken awesome!
