Original: a classic track from a classic slab of European death metal.

Cover: a awesome execution by a killer band. This song never sounded so good.

Post any covers you think are killer.

Trent Reznor originally wrote it for NIN, Johnny Cash took it, applied 60 years of hard livin', drugs, and alcohol with it, and made it into a masterpiece.

While David Bowie's original is interesting and cool, Cobain's soulful, sad version of it seems more in line with the heart of the song. My favourite song actually.

Good stuff, but c'mon, don't be so predictable...

alright alright, you got me. I'm a sucker for sad soulful tunes.

How about this, got the CD as a new year's gift, kind of expanded my pallet.

they're two croatian guys, cover popular music on cellos. pretty simple, but its good stuff.

Chuck Berry did the original:

then Dr. Feelgood had a go at it:

I've always loved Easy Star All Star's covers:

Pariah, I have to agree with Greg on this with your first post. Very predictable on the Johnny Cash. While I do love that song, it's almost hard to call it an actual cover as he did change the lyrics at one part. Instead of "I wear this crown of shit, upon my liars chair", Cash sang "I wear this crown of thorns". I'm more of a person that believes if you're doing the cover, do it right. Change the pitch of your voice, the sound of the guitar, but at least do the right lyrics. Now, onto two of my favorites.

Completely obvious to all by now that I love Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails, so this one shouldn't really come as any surprise, but I do have to admit, it's really hard to cover any Zep. Here's Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Karen O doing "Immigrant Song".

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ljbBayiWglg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Now for my 80's fix, it's Rise Against doing Journey.

I have seen Trent use the "crown of thorns" version in live shows during the 90's and such. Just throwing my two cents into the ring for what it's worth. I do prefer the "crown of shit" version found on the actual album though.

Bear in mind, I am biased on this. I can't stand Cash's voice.

Hey, by all means, disagree. I think of it as a cover, and honestly consider this one of Johnny Cash's most awe-inspiring songs, but thats just my opinion. I'll never begrudge a music-based disagreement Smile

I'm not so much a fan of their later stuff. I don't know I haven't heard it in awhile though maybe I'd appreciate it more now. But yeah Nothingface is probably my fav album.

There's nothing in the world that's better than a cover of an amazing song by William Shatner, man.

I don't know man they are both pretty wicked. I find Tipton does a better job with the intro sweeping piece that starts off the solo section. Not that Chuck isn't a beast on guitar himself he definitely has his awesome moments in his version of the solo. I just see them as different but equally awesome.
