did one on my old PC... BSOD, had to system restore since i didnt have the old driver anymore Razz

did one on my new laptop... BSOD, had to do a fresh install from disk. goddamn it Sad

I am sorry but driver updates do not cause BSOD's (well not that I have heard about in the last 5 years). Could I ask what the codes were for each?

well, turns out it might have been WINsat.exe running itself in the background ¬_¬ someone far more knowledgable than me on another forum is helping me out Razz

the codes were 0x000(bunch more 0's)16.
display driver stopped responding and has recovered.

and from a googling, WINsat.exe has caused this for other people too Sad

The error you described (0x00000016), I could not find anything relating to winstat. From what I read this error is caused when by a variety of reasons, including incompatible drivers and incompatible essential hardware. Do you by any chance have the minidump and what drivers were you trying to install on both systems?
