Purge

Anyone else seen the trailers for this on tv?

It makes me think "gratuitous violence" and that's about it. Why else make a moving about a yearly purge where anything is legal!

Apparently the movie industry is so fucked they can't even come up with a basic idea that isn't grounded in needless violence. And people eat it up. I don't get it.

What the fuck is the appeal?

I love horror - real horror where you get all freaked out, not just sickened by gore - but I don't get kill spree movies. Where's the enjoyment? Is it a boy thing?

Who knows, it could have a ridiculously deep plot.

But violence is good enough for me if that's not true.

It's an outlet for some people, I think. Personally I don't like it, but I'm a believer that violent media helps keep it OFF the streets.

I haven't seen a horror movie for ages that wasn't more about grossing you out than scaring you.

I'm not scared by blood and guts, its just gross, and a cheap way to imitate "horror".

If I remember right, MAMA was pretty creepy without being overly gorey. But the classics did do it best. The original House on Haunted Hill is on Netflix, go watch it. The way they use sound is BRILLIANT.

However, I am good at working myself up into being scared. So I enjoyed the Paranormal Activity movies. And The Fourth Kind Scared the FUCK out of me.


I have no problem with action movies. But I do have problems with movies that seemed to be set up with as little plot as possible just so they can make lots of killings happen. And I don't get what excites people about this.

The Fourth Kind made my bones ache.

To me, gratuitous violence and gore don't always go hand in hand. And the gore stuff was about horror movies, that only seem to be about that, versus actual horror.


Moldybread, I have, and it was humorous and gross. Mostly gross. Old lady spit.

I might go see it. It looks like it could possibly be interesting. Maybe.
