Looking for a ethernet splitter

I have one wire running from my DSL modem to my XBO and 360. I'm looking for a cheap way to just split it so I can run either one at one time, but not have to go in the back, unplug everything, then plug it back in. This looks promising:

Ethernet splitter?
I don't understand, why don't you just buy a router?

I think that should fit your needs. You just wouldn't be able to use them both at once.

The only problem is if the XBO is still periodically checking for updates or getting any other data when off it's gonna fuck things up. If that causes a problem you're gonna need a router/switch.

Because the thing already runs from a router/modem. I have wires running all over my house and just want a cheap fix. It's not like I'm going to be playing the 360 and XBO at the same time. But that does raise a good point that I forgot to add into the equation. Maybe a switch. Would that not fuck up the XBO's possible constant system update?

TBH, Id rather go for a switch...

Yeah if a switch is just $10(non commie link: http://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-TL-SF1005D-100Mbps-Unmanaged-Desktop/dp/B000FNFSPY/) might as well just go with that.

I'm pretty sure that the Xbox One's need for update would not work with the splitter.
But I've read you can use two splitters connected that would make it work. One merges two connections from the router, and the other splits them.  Basically it goes:2 ROUTER PORTS = ---- = XBOX ONE/360. "=" being the splitters. At that point you're probably better off just going with a switch though...

I don't even think those splitters work right, it had pretty bleh reviews. Way back I went to the store looking for the same thing, ethernet splitter...the guy working there kinda looked at me stupid and said no man you need a router.

But that cheap switch would work good,it just basically adds more ports to your router

This didn't deserve a new thread, so I'll just post it here.

Not sure why I keep going there.

Well, no, I do know why. I laugh way too much at the stupid and weird shit that I keep finding.
