I have a mac mini 1st gen, and when im importing a cd, it says I can do a AAC encoder, or a AIFF encoder. Anybody know the difference? I tried the AIFF, its its loads faster. I can geta cd done in about 2 minuets, whereas on the AAC it took close to ten.

How much better? If its drastic Ill just do AAC, but I dont have a problem with it if its minor. And Ive thought of that, but they all go to my ipod anyway, so I never really use the MP3 format. Not unless I put it on my phone, but then I convert it anyway.

Tom I think you have them mixed up AIFF is lossless. Probably faster because no compression is involved.

You'll probably have less compatibility issues with AAC if you ever plan on using non-mac stuff though.

oh shit I did was think of something else. AIFF is lossless but is pretty much only for mac. You most likely would not be able to tell the difference and AIFF takes WAY more space than mp3/ACC.

That shouldnt be a problem. I plan on using Macs anyways, and im throwing everything on an external hard drive for now. But how bad are the Mac to Pc problems?

AIFF can not be read on pc without a special player.

wow.... ok. So how much is this? I only ask because im on the fence between what I may buy. Im planning on buying a new computer this summer, because this one (the family one) sucks. I could build a pc with my bro, which is what im planning on doing, or buy a Mac. As much as I love Macs, I dont have 1500 to spend on a desktop. There drop dead expensive...

Just convert it into another lossless format man. I am not even sure if those players work.

AIFF is actually supported by Windows Media Player.

It's AAC lossless that you'll have more problems with I think.(just like WMA lossless on anything other than Windows Media Player).

I know. If I build a pc it would be around 500 to 800. Thats not bad, expecially because its a lot cheaper to buy your own stuff and build from scratch. But jeez, its automatically 1,000 for the base model for a mac. Then for the good stuff, it only gets more expensive.
