Been looking at stuff the last few days, my mother actually gave me quite a bit bigger budget than I was expecting haha.

i5 2500k
560 Ti
550w
Z68 (gotta get dat HDMI and USB 3.0 <3)
4GB ram
1TB HDD
DVD ROM (I actually don't currently have an all-in-one DVD/CD RW >_>)
1080p 21.5in Monitor
Case
G500 mouse
For a total right at $1000. Gonna get Windows 7 with a student discount for $30.

BF3, here I come.

Congrats.

The very second it gives you even the most minor bit of trouble I suggest you beat it to death with a baseball bat.

I could be entirely wrong here, but I think you might want to bump up that power supply to at least 650. Peavs, feel free to correct me. Razz

Newegg's PSU calculator recommended at least 500. But $20 more to be safe (and leave some room for the future) seems good enough that I'll go ahead and go to 650.

Seems pretty good. Dammit, I want a new rig.

You could spend like, 5 extra dollars for the 2GB version of a Radeon HD 6950 and unlock it to 6970, and get a better card for arguably the same price. You should be good to go anyway.

4 gigs is gonna be enough. But you will notice some performance lag. Get at least 8 gigs of ram

Oh, and yeah, get a 650 watt psu like ante said.

4 GB of RAM is plenty for games nowadays. 8 is good to have, but not really necessary. Unless BF3 breaks the trend...

4 gigs is enough to get away with, but you're going to have problems later. You can get really good 8 gig ram sets for low prices. Get this stuff (I'm using 16 gb of it in my build right now)

3 other things:

1) Don't bother with the z68 mobos right now. They are a new chipset and will definitely go under some revisions. I'd go with P67 because it's going to be cheaper and P67 has usb 3.0 as well.

2) You don't need the HDMI because your graphics card will already have that. Use the DVI ports. It's exactly the same encoding as HDMI except it doesn't do audio.

3) I didn't see anything in there for an aftermarket cpu heatsink. Get one. Sandy bridge cpus are begging to be overclocked. Definitely get one.

How much should I spend on a heatsink, and what are good brands? Preferring cheap but reliable here haha.

Corsair and Coolermaster. Also I think EVGA just released a new one as well.

Fan+Heatsink or just heatsink?

Nice, the only thing I'm lacking are some good graphics cards myself. Two Galaxy GTX460' is what I'm currently running.

Due to other priorities and me going into the Air Force, I unfortunately will not be able to upgrade them until some time in mid to late spring in 2012. On the bright side, I'm hoping that some newer hardware will have been released by then that will be even better than what is available to run BF3 at max upon its launch.

My budget, if my funds allow it, will be around $650-800 for a new set. I'll be looking forward to seeing you all on the front in BF3.

Both, they almost always are packaged together.
