I want to punch Xbox's/Windows media sharing in the face

By that I mean the thingy that lets you stream songs to your xbox from your computer.

It would be a cool feature if it worked, but at the moment it won't let me play music for more than 5 minutes at a time without freezing, if I'm lucky.

I don't get what I have to do to make it work properly, it was working fine until I rebooted my computer to get some Windows updates, but I have rebooted it about 48 times since then to try and get this to work properly and it still hasn't.

Now is the time to seek out Bill Gates and give him a good ol' dragon kick.

i know it says ps3 but it works for xbox

ya I was about to say try the ps3media server thingy.I've never used it but heard good things,and it supposedly plays file formats the other windows media sharing wouldn't

I've tried Ushare for linux before with little luck, it worked fine but it could only query up the first 500 songs in my library at the very most.

EDIT: And fuck yes, this is for Linux too that makes me very happy.

Damn, it doesn't seem to work, at least for Ubuntu. It says that it is connected, but I can't find it in the music player on the xbox.

Aaand it does show up for Windows, but I just get errors when I try to play.

Do you know what could be wrong with it?

It displays an unknown renderer for linux rather than Xbox 360 like it does for Windows. And I'm wondering if it matters that my music folders are all cluttered with images and text files.

that may have something to do with it

Unisyst set me up with it on my PC and i believe he has it running on a linux box

he may be better equipped to assist but i still wouldn't mind taking a shoot at it
