Parents took away the xbox again

Holy shit. I'm 18 years old. If I want to play Mass Effect three all night on a three day weekend when I have very little that needs to be done, what is the problem? Why are you telling me to do something more constructive? It's fucking 1030 at night. What do you want me to do? Get my car and go search for little old ladies to help cross the street?

Ouch man. That does suck. I fail to see what good that does anybody. I understand not wanting your kid to play games all the time, but if thats how you want spend your free time then you should be free to do so. So long as your not ignoring your other duties then there shouldn't be a problem.

I just made eagle scout, go into college, decided to go to the cheapest one possible (for other reasons but also including that it would be easier on my parents), and between school, work, and homework, I'm technically working more hours/week than my dad. I don't get allowance, don't ask for it, and don't ever ask them to pay for anything big for me, besides the obvious college.

How much more constructive can I get? Really? Am I that bad of a son that they can't leave me alone and let me play video games on the weekend?

Their house their rules unfortunately. It's why I moved out of my mom's house at 16 (one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made).

I can accept that, I just can't accept there never being a logical justification for them. It's always some semantic bull. it used to be that they thought violent games would make me a psycho, then i proved that wrong to them by writing a research paper about it for school. Then they wanted me to be more constructive. So I got a job. Before this I already had very good grades, and now I've already been accepted into college.

They're just never satisfied as long as I'm playing a video game. I could literally be doing something just as useless, like reading a comic book in my room, and they would be fine with it. I swear, EA must have killed my dad's parents or something.

same with my dad. he rips on me or frowns upon it every time im on. i do very well in school and do a lot of house cleaning without much help and no pay. its just a perspective issue i think

Your parents never had things like the games we have now. So its probably hard for them to understand. I think mine would be appauled at all the time I sink into games >_>

plus he plays Stronghold Crusader when he is bored, its the only Video Game he plays now (he got bored of AoM) and he loves it, so i guess he is more tolerant

he was annoyed that there isn't a Mac version of it, so he has kept his old laptop so he can still play it i might buy him AoE:III for the Mac for fathers day or something

is there a free aoe anywhere i need my yearly dose of rts to cover for not getting any games like that since my dad got total war legonnaire

I bought my dad Madden 10 for Christmas but he hasn't touched it. He just plays Football 3 or something for N64 occasionally.

You can buy AoE 1 and 2 plus their expansion packs for about 10 dollars, it comes in a pack and you can run it on a calculator it's so old. Very good games though.

You can also get the StarCraft II demo and play that. Comes with some multiplayer maps i think.

My friends dad is like that man. He absolutely hates video games and everything about them. If my friend plays them for more then an hour or two a day his dad takes them away. Because they "Waste your mind and talent" he always says. Yet my friend can sit on his living room couch for 12 hours a day watching tv and using his laptop, and his dad doesn't care....because its not video games.

thankfully my parents were never like this. I could play video games all day and all night if that's what I wanted to do.

Yea dude sorry to hear that. At 18 I dont believe your parents should go to those extremes. Especially as you seem to really have your shit together as well. My parents only wish I was as responsible as you when I was 18.

It just makes freedom taste that much better when you finally move out.

My dad and I have a standing agreement. As long as my grades are good (up to 1 B, rest A's), my homework is "done" and I play on the weekends, he wont fuck around with the xbox.

I only get yelled at when i am playing pass 12 and i leave my door open. "Put your dog in your room it's not good for him to keep moveing and sleeping. I don't want to hear you talking to imaginary people on that game anymore" among the more popular comments.

I've never been kicked off before 3am. And thats only due to the Dolby 5.1 surround.

My dad does this too and it pisses me the fuck off. It's not even that I want to play video games that badly, it just drives me crazy that he takes it without explanation, pretty much because he simply doesn't like video games.

I don't get it, he lets me do all sorts of things but acts so irrationally when it comes to video games

I let little D play as long as he wants as long as he's good, there's worse shit kids could be doing.

My mom was pretty strict about playing games so I ended up cutting school to play or sneaking to play in the middle of the night when she was sleeping (NES was in the living room), most of the games I beat from like 12-15 was in the cover of the night.

My parents kinda don't give a fuck how much I play, which I suppose is both good and bad.

Yeah neither are mine, as long as i get good grades they don't give a fuck. Well, even before i was getting good grades they barely gave a fuck.

I wish mine gave less of a fuck.
