This happened on Monday so it's old news, but do you guys think this will turn the Niners around?

Here's the sequence of events:

After thinking about this for a while I think Jimmy Raye was scapegoated and the poor playcalling was a result of Singletary.

I'm curious to see their new offense this Sunday but I'm not expecting any miracles.

Hmmm I don't think this is going to change anything for the niners this season.

Yeah me neither.

I'm like the anti-Niner fan it's weird when I watch their games because I want them to do good, but not good enough that Singletary keeps his job. I'm so over the guy that I want them to clean house and start over cause there's not going to be too much success with the current team and coaching staff.

Singletary is a more defensive minded coach, so in this case the offensive coordinator would be to blame for play calling, but I really think it's more of a poor execution on the players part. This may shake them up a bit, but he did this with Vernon Davis his first couple of games, remember he benched him, and it worked. the Niners need a QB, and I don't think Alex Smith is the guy they need. The new coordinator likes a spread offense so this has so interesting fantasy implications.

The thing is the OC was calling plays in accordance with Singletary's philosophy so I don't think he had much leeway in getting more creative with the calls.

"I was doing what I was brought here to do under his philosophy he wanted installed. I tried as best I could to carry that out with the quarterbacking and the personnel that we had."

"I was doing what I was brought here to do under his philosophy he wanted installed," Raye said. "I didn't come in and say, 'This is my offense, and I'm running this, and if you don't like it, you can get somebody else.' I was doing what was given me to do."

2 quotes from Raye after he was fired. I think the guy wasn't allowed to change anything, and based on how Singletary comes off I don't think anyone would have the balls to question him or try to change anything.

Hopefully he allows the new OC some flexibility but ultimately like you said, Smith probably isn't the guy that's going to get it done for them. He's not a very good QB in a lot of regards. He's shown flashes but he's mid tier at best.

The new OC apparently took some time off to study the spread offense and adapt it for the NFL so we'll see how that goes, but execution is going to be key here.

I think mid season changes are retarded. Let the season play out. Then fire someone.

Or in the case of the Niners fire:
