Still haven't played any of the Dead Space games...

Are the stories connected? Would I need to play 1 first?

I played 2. never played one. They explain most of what happened so you don't really need to play one.

nah you don't have to have played 1 but I'd really recommend it. Not necessarily for the story, just cuz it's a good game. The 2nd game has multiplayer I always wanted to get into, but, like BF3 there's idiot team mates so I raged too much. It's kinda like L4D where one team is monsters and one humans

Stories are directly connected between 1 & 2, though some background settings are a little screwed up (thats maybe just that not everything is revealed yet, and maybe 3 will solve some conflicting setting issues). Though, if you play 2, there is something like an overview video(? was it video?) that illustrates what the heck happened in the first game.

Dead Space series are STRONGLY recommended, and it can be described in a simplified version of Resident Eveil series without the BS controls + SF settings.

The Dead Space games are outstanding, and it's well worth playing them both (Extraction, the on rails lightgun job was actually very decent as well).

However, I have to say these rumours have me a bit concerned about the direction they're taking with the third.

I'm all for co-op experiences, but I'm not sure I want it to be the core of a new Dead Space - maybe a complimentary campaign, with different characters.....

Although rumours I've heard of the second player possibly being a figment of Isaac's imagination could be very interesting.

After that, the talk of cover based fighting, large scale battles and snowy landscapes just smacks of Lost Planet to me - and seems a world away from the claustrophobic isolation I love about Dead Space Neutral

yea that's what I was thinking too, that it could ruin any scary factor the game had.

I'm just glad to hear anything period about DS3....been drooling for any new details since DS2 came out last Jan.I wish they would of made more DLC for DS2 as well.Wonder when this one will come out.Maybe next year...probably too soon for a release date

oh yea I remember playing it on PS2...some parts were hard as hell Razz I never made it past that part where you get captured by those army guys.

DS3 is supposed to be on an ice planet,it would be cool like The Thing

The Thing video game was a great game, and was a better complement to the movie then last years crap.

Not too excited with the news for DS3 now though...

Yeah I will say my interest for DS3 is lessened knowing they will go away from the tense, I could die around any corner, feeling the other 2 had.

why do all scary games eventually have to go the "action" route and ruin themselves?I'm looking at you Resident Evil and Silent Hill....and now Dead Space =/

Really? The John Carpenter's The Thing came out the same year I was born and I love the shit out of that movie. I thought the prequel that came out not too long ago was superb... I did hate having to explain that it was a prequel to a good number of my friends though. I thought it was great finally getting to see what the Norwegians (sp?) went through.

Also, the game on the PS2 was fantastic once you got down the cluttered-feeling controls. Very well done movie licensed game.

On DS3 going towards action and the possible co-op:
Action games and multi-player are what gamers seem to be drooling over now. Game companies are trying to give people what they think the people want with almost no thought put into keeping what brought people to the game in the first place.

No I was talking about the Prequel. The original movie is in my top 10 favorites. But the Prequel, while not bad, was not a good Thiing movie. Did not have almost any of the old feelings the original gave.

True, it didn't have the same feel. I agree with that. I guess I just liked that they actually painstakingly went through the original and used the aftermath you saw of the Norwegian base and faithfully included the things you saw. (for example: the axe found buried in the wall.) I thought the new one was damned good after years of shitty PG-13 junk horror films. (if Shark Night had gone for an R rating and didn't rely on the crap 3D trend it could have been good.) Was refreshing to see something like The Thing.

urgh,I'm with you on the years of shitty pg-13 "horror" movies........bleh.First "big" one I remember hearing about was the pg-13 cheesy boogeyman lmao or hell they even ruined AVP back in the day making it PG-13.....but they wanted more money since parents would think it was blindy ok for kids to see it if it was pg-13 instead of r

Evil or Very Mad

Finally some news on it Very Happy

I have a feeling that the hardest difficulty in this game will be No saves like Ds2 only have 3 and Ds1 you have Unlimited.

No saves= No trying the mode for me

DS2 hardcore (? forgot the difficulty name) mode's difficulty is actually not THAT difficult. The actual difficulty comes in the form just as an limited save. So if someone just remembers what to do, and has relatively ok’ish skill, its totally possible. Though, I just think that difficulty mode is just a “I want to waste my time” mode, mostly.

However, I am guilty of playing the old resident evil series to get S ranks, which involved no saving and under certain amount of play time (technically you can advance DS2 at slug pace if you have to. LoL).

Yeah, it's only... Survivalist difficulty, I think, which is only one step up from normal difficulty (I think. It's been a while since I really looked at it. I could be wrong). It really isn't all that hard. The limited saves just leads to mistakes and frustration mostly. I will likely get the cheevo eventually because I love the game and wouldn't mind playing through it again to see if I can make it. The "buffer" that the disk swapping gives you a false checkpoint is a boon to me. Gives a nice benefit to the game being on two disks.
