Holy crap man this is no contest....

A all the way. Less than 100 difference...

The cpu is similar but the GPU Screen alone make the first one much better.

Guest

Guest

But even then that CPu is better.

Its a no brainer to me.

isn't the GT630m the same as the GT525m though?

and the CPUs are identical Razz

Guest

There is more to a CPU besides GHZ.

Thats interesting about the GPU's.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-630M.63761.0.html

Read that

The card you are thinking of is the 540m.

The Adli Corporation

The Adli Corporation

aah, its similar to the GT540m, not the 525m. and only the 96 shader version. i see.

and whats the difference in CPUs? they are both 2nd gen Intel i5s.

<--- is confused.

ok scratch that, just saw that they are not identical after all, one is 25xx adn the other is 24xx. my bad.

Haha they are really similar when it comes down to it. But there is no denying you will get better performance out of that custom, as well as a bigger screen. Which for laptops, makes a big difference.

Ive turned into a huge computer nerd these days. They are fun haha.

better insurance on the custom one too. i reckon if i show the difference between the two my parents will come around (my mother wants me to get a Dell laptop as a general rule lol)

My dad and I used to screw with our computer nerd friends by using an old HP chassis and totally redoing the internal components. Ran as a damn good machine, but it's done now.

The list of PC vendors that screwed me over the early years of my life are

Compaq - the worst of them all
HP
Dell
Samsung - very minor, only a netbook though
Sambo - A Korean company that nobody probably cares about

how easy is it to switch out GPUs in laptops?

if i have some spare cash (unlikely at uni, but whatever) i might want to get it upgraded in the holidays or something, to stop the game market running away from me Razz

In laptops its a massive bitch and sometimes impossible, sadly.

dang. nevermind then XD

i was thinking of sending it back to the seller and getting them to upgrade it, but if its really hard then i won't bother. ill stick with the 630m.

once i'm out of uni and have enough money i'll build a serious desktop rig and not have to worry about being overtaken Smile

Yea a desktop is really the best option, but I understand how its not feasible for some people. Plus the INITIAL investment is alot, but maintenance and upgrades from then on out are very cheap. Especially with consoles stagnating the market right now.

Just make sure you monitor the heat on that thing, as laptops have heating issues.

its a USB pad, so it'll draw more power through the laptop, but it has some really good reviews on amazon.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/ZALMAN-ZM-NC3000S-Notebook-cooling/dp/B003OXFSNY/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

^ one of the reviews gave it 3/5 because it made his lap cold

prebuilt the better option? Funny-gifs-and-headdesk

after the extras (mouse, headset, pad, i7, 750GB 7,200 RPM HDD instead of the slower 1TB) its £766, but thats fine for the bonuses Smile

lol, there is an 11" laptop with a GT650m, but the 15.6" only has GT630m as an option.
what gives?

the website im using is planning an update system in the future, so hopefully i'll be able to upgrade in the future.

ok, choices choices.

630m with more RAM and a better HDD, for 735
Spoiler:

or a 650m, less RAM (but faster), a smaller HDD, bigger screen, for 796.

Spoiler:

i went for the better thermal paste because it was an option to choose Smile

i might push past 800 and get a few extras on the second, because ive got some work this week. that can raise my budget a little Smile

but dat GPU, the laptop is £818 with 8GB of 1333 DDR3 RAM. Sad

i dont really want to go above £800 (i think over £800 is desktop kinda budget) but the GT 650m is twice as good (Benchmark) as the 630m.
