Oblivion > Skyrim

The only thing Skyrim has better is the leveling system (which can be fixed via mods)and aesthetics.

Oblivion has better story telling, more interesting faction quests, less linear dungeons etc...

I feel Im probably in the minority here, but how do you guys feel?

From a storytelling perspective? Morrowind hands-fucking-down.
Sheer gameplay? Skyrim.

I've spent hundreds of hours each on the three "main" ES games, and Oblivion is easily the worst. I did enjoy all 350+ hours I put into Oblivion immensely, but the game has not aged gracefully.

imo, obviously

Im playing it now and I think its aged really well. Granted I have about 20 mods installed to improve the core experience.

I was not counting Morrowind. I actually just started playing that one too after some modding. I just find Skyrim kinda meh compared to the other two.

But like you said, IMO.

Dungeons arent the strong point in the series, that much is sure.

Maybe its because I haven't really done the dungeons in Oblivion for awhile.

The dungeons in Oblivion were designed by one guy, so they are all basically copy and paste.

Skyrim had like 15 different people creating them, and I can say that 60-70% of the dungeons are vastly different.

I really wasn't impressed much with Oblivion. I like Morrowind the best out of all of them, followed by Skyrim. Skyrim did feel dumbed down/too casual in alot of ways now that I'm thinking about it,more of an action game than real RPG,but I liked most of the stuff in it.

honestly though, the DLC for Skyrim was a letdown for me.Alot of the factions were a letdown and I thought stuff like the twist to the Thieve's guild was cheesy and also the dark brotherhood =/

Alot of the loot in Skyrim was absolutely useless as well,no good weapons to speak of really. You pretty much had to craft Daedric,etc...........I would of liked to be able to find them in a high level dungeon or something like Morrowind.

I did like Skyrim overall,I found it combined some good parts about Morrowind and Oblivion.Alot of the dungeons reminded me of Morrowind stuff, like little hidden off the path ways to do stuff

been meaning to play Oblivion again.I only ever did the main quest, arena, and some of the dark brotherhood.

had alot of lagging issues with Oblivion even after clearing the cache on the 360,idk what was up with that...

I'm with you, man. I do love Morrowind, but it can be hard to go back and play it now. Oblivion had much better quests than Skyrim and even though the world was just a typical fantasy world, I still found more variety in it than Skyrim.

Yea I think its really the story and questing I like about Oblivion.

Sooo much better than Skyrim I think, personally to me IMO......

The Dark Brotherhood in particular.

i was really disappointed with the Civil War questline. i only to attack two fucking cities. TWO. i had a mission to take back Winterhold, which i completed without ever stepping foot in Winterhold as an Imperial Soldier.

such a let-down, it could have been improved ten-fold by adding in proper sieges and maybe some more guerrilla warfare.

I thought the Thieves Guild in Skyrim was amazing!

And I honestly preferred the Dark Brother hood in Oblivion to the Skyrim one, just because of Lucien.

But the Warriors guild story takes a dump on teh Fighters Guild.

I feel the opposite. I really liked the main quest(although it was really short)

But the faction quests just didnt do it for me this time around.

I really hated the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim. SOOOOOO much better in Oblvion. The quests were awesome.

haha yeah it was kind of a buggy game. It would freeze for me quite a bit too..and it always seemed to to so at the most inconvenient times. It would be like "oh you just spent an hour or two meticulously training only certain skills so you could get +5,+5 and +5 for bonuses and didn't save when you finally leveled up?" *game has seizure and goes into coma*

fuck you game...that would pretty much make me rage quit every time.

I'm playing Oblivion right now, about 20 hours in, so I will weigh in.

Skyrim is much easier to play, and the fighting is WAAAAAYYY better in Skyrim. The leveling in Oblivion is a total chore. I hate doing it and it kinda pisses me off at times. I like the way they have the skills set up in Skyrim better as well, picking perks for skills is more rewarding than just getting slightly better at the skills.

All that being said, Oblivion is way deeper. Getting loot is rewarding. Most of the quest I have done seem a little more interesting than Skyrims, more epic in a way. Cyrodil's environment is nicer than Skyrims, it varies a lot more.

Right now its kind of a toss up. Since I'm just starting on Oblivion I will say I enjoyed Skyrims beginning more. But I think by the end I may enjoy Oblivion more.

I will withold my vote for now

I never went in many Oblivion dungeons but from what I did, they seemed kinda creepy actualy not like in Skyrim "fight these draugher the whole game!!1 in well lit areas that all look the same, with garbage loot!"

I've had Morrowind GOTY on my laptop forever now, just haven't been in the mood to play it.......after so many hours of playing it on the original xbox,it feels weird on pc.I was thinking of getting the unofficial patch for it that fixed all the bugs, but what fun would that be? Razz

I played Morrowind so much I had my own sure fire way without cheating or any bullshit to have some good armor, daedric claymore, and longblade up to 100 (so you could actually hit what you were striking >__> )

While you peasants are arguing about silly swords and magic, I'll be over here shooting a Super Mutant in the face.

I played Oblivion for about an hour, and just didn't like. I don't really know what it was, but I just didn't click with it. Everything felt so clunky and everyone looked so ugly. I may buy it on Steam if it goes on sale and give it another go.

Never played Morrowind, gotta try it some day.

Skyrim? I have about 300-400 hours in it. So yeah I kinda like it a little.

Oblivion blew me away at first even after I played the shit out of Morrowind. To see a game like Morrowind, only with decent graphics, NPCs that could do more than tell me about the latest rumors, scheduled NPCs, and stuff was amazing.

I hate the combat in all of the games though. I enjoy Fallout more.

eh,I went back to FO3 not that long ago to try and get the last achievement I need, and it was a chore......it's not a god awful game,I just like NV better. I thought FO3 DLCs were cheesy except for point lookout. The NV DLCs were decent except for Dead Money which dragged on forever...

I liked the freedom of choice in NV as far as the story goes.I hate how in FO3 it forces you to go with one side,I would of liked to join the "bad" guys for the hell of it.

The Dunwich building was creepy, but most of the places in FO3 are largely forgettable now that I'm thinking about it.It also gets WAYYYY too easy later on fighting the enclave and them dropping plasma rifles left and right and stimpacks left and right.Stimpacks were more rare in NV

both good games,I just like NV better.I liked the random encounters in FO3,but honestly they seemed to happen so few and far inbetween for me,they don't make or break the deal *shrug*

How is the NV story better? O.O

In Fallout 3, the game starts out as you looking for your dad, trying to figure out what the hell is going on, and generally just trying to survive the wasteland. As your progress, the story unfolds into a tale of the kid from the vault sets out to save the entire Capitol Wasteland and eventually make the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good (Good Karma).

In NV, you're a delivery boy who gets shot in the face, then proceeds to make bank by gambling at casinos. Woo

NV story is about forty five billion times better than FO3.

And Ill tell you why.

Simply Chris Avelone had a hand in writing it, which resulted in the TRUE fallout experience.

Such as.....Multiple, branching paths.

You could beat the main story in NV in numerous ways, each totally different from eachother.

FO3 is one linear path.

The writing in NV is exponentially better as well. The humor is much more fallout style as well.

Its really very simple. Not to sound like a total jack ass, but NV is much more like the first fallout games than 3. And the story is a big big reason why.

I loved both Fallout 3 and NV and even though I have only played a good 300 hours on NV, I put well over 700 into Fallout 3, and I can honestly say. NV is the superior game.

Both in story, characters, dialogue and true Fallout Humor.

But anyone who says that NV's action is better then Fallout 3s is high.

Even though NV has the better game mechanics(IE Iron sights, usable perks, guns firing where your aiming)3 is a LOT more fun action wise. You can not tell me that the DC ruins are boring.
