Is this normal or is there something wrong with soundcard?

When I'm wearing headphones I hear this slight buzzing/static noise whenever I do something, like open a new window and shit.

Is this a normal thing? I've got a dedicated soundcard so I don't know why it would be getting interference from the processor. It still gets great sound and I can't notice it when other things are going on.

Could it be the headphones themselves? Maybe they're the problem? (just taking a stab in the dark here)

its probably the headphones, or a loose connection in the jack.

i get slight cable noise on the in-line volume control, and a slight hissing when the headphones are on max.

its probably your headphones, not the sound card Smile

Nah, I've tried it with two different sets of headphones and it doesn't happen with my laptop.

The sound is the exact same volume regardless of what the volume is on my computer, when my computer is on max volume there is no hissing at all whatsoever, but still the interference. I can still here the interference when the volume is muted.

EDIT: I think the interference might be coming from the wifi adapter below it actually... it happens most when pages are loading.

EDIT2: Yep, definitely the wifi adapter. If I take out the antennae it goes away, but so does my internet.

dang.

do you have homeplugs? you could use them to set-up an ethernet connection if you really cant stand the interference of the wireless card.

I live in an apartment so I don't want to drill a hole in the wall.

The interference isn't terrible, I only really hear it when there's no other sound which in that case I don't have a reason to be wearing headphones in the first place, but still it would be nice to get rid of.

I think if I move it up it will be gone, but I'm not sure if the slot above it will support it. It's PCIE rather than PCI and is placed further back. I think I would have to move it two slots up which would then likely be too close to the graphics card.

Maybe if I could find a way to reduce the power output since my router is so close then it would help.

Damn they really didnt test that PC before they shipped it!

Sorry to hear that man.

Well it's a really subtle thing so they would have missed it unless they were testing with fairly high quality headphones and with it connected to the internet.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the hardware itself, it's just not the best idea to put the two right next each other I guess.

I'm a little confused about the ports though when it comes to PCI and PCIE.... They're each every other spot so I don't get how it would be possible to even SLI with a soundcard, unless you put the soundcard between the two graphics cards or something.

What board did you get again?

homeplugs dont work like that. you plug on into a electrical socket, linked to your PC via ethernet. then you plug the second homeplug into the electrical socket by your router, and plug that one into the router via ethernet. the router sends the connection into one homeplug, into the wiring of your house, out of the other homeplug and into your PC via ethernet. no drilling required.

I have never heard of that, I don't even understand how that would work. I'll have to check it out.

ASRock Z77 Extreme4.

The onboard sound on it is actually totally fucked, constant ringing noise and a lot of interference, but I guess that doesn't matter. I might have gotten the wrong drivers for it or accidentally downloaded two drivers for it. BIOS automatically disables it when it's set to auto so maybe there's a good reason for that.

Anyways they said they're sending me a different brand of wifi adapter with my graphics card. Hopefully that fixes it. Reseating the card actually reduced it a bit too.

i'm not sure how they exactly work, but the place i got my laptop from offers them for desktop PCs. they seem like a good option Smile
