So I messed around with the physx setting for a while and was quite surprised. On high my fps average is around 42, on medium my fps average is around 48 (Even though this was in a starter area it had a lot going on like 10 + cloths and barrels along with 15+ enemies). The difference between low and medium/high was quite noticeable. They are little specs of dirt and sparks flying everywhere with physx on medium/high if you have an explosive weapon. There was also the cloth and fluid animation. The big difference between medium and high is the fluid simulation. Enemies and barrels will just squirt blood (and other goop) all over the place on high, while on medium only toilets and enemies get the fluid simulation, and the blood is greatly reduced.
In all honesty I prefer the medium version, at least right now because of the fluid animation. Physx fluid just looks so fake and gelatin like. When it is just little splatters of blood though I feel it is a nice touch. Overall I feel that physx is a nice little addition, adding a lot of little effects that really help give the weapons a little more punch. Still I will probably turn it off in the end because I value 60 fps over a few fancy particle effects and cloth/fluid simulations.
