A U.N. conference that kicked off last week in Dubai has sparked fear of Internet censorship in the U.S. -- something U.S. Ambassador Terry Kramer said he is doing everything in his power to prevent.

Nothing regarding the Internet do we want subject to U.N. review and regulation, Kramer told FoxNews.com.

Monday marked the first day of an 11-day conference. Kramer, who leads the U.S. delegation at the conference, said that the first day had gone well and so far delegates are still in the early stage, talking about what should be reviewed when. No specific regulations have been debated yet.

'[Proposals] ... which would essentially tax the Internet we are actively opposing.

But regulations likely to come up soon are far reaching with signification ramifications, ranging from changes to the way web addresses like ".com" are distributed to charging websites for sending information (for example, a company like Google or Amazon could be required to pay cable companies a charge every time someone used their site.)

like the UN is gonna get the US to do anything it doesn't want to do. The US can invade countries that the UN doesn't want it to, what makes them think the US is gonna let them censor their internet?

I call bullshit. And here's why:

1. The source is Fox News, possibly the most blatantly biased "new source" in all of history (they got out of slander charges one by literally saying that they didn't have to provide facts, seeing as they're a "news-entertainment" channel)

2. The Internet is it's own sovereign territory, one that cannot be ruled by countries. We saw this with Google, they completely flouted international law and suffered no consequences, on multiple occasions.

3. What Duck said, the US can do whatever it wants when it comes to it's own borders.

4. Charging websites by the visit is one of the most blatantly stupid and pointless things that can even be thought up, and I have to hope that one of these political clowns is smart enough to see that.

5. Back to Google. If Google and Amazon decided to stop working for a while, the Internet could quite literally collapse. Websites have died in days after Google stopped showing them on searches (evidence: xenu.com nearly stopped existing when google sided with the CoS against them)

6. The second someone mentioned that this would happen to the common man, we would have complete and total revolution. So much is now entangled in the internet that if anything were to infringe on that, there would be a near-global Jihad.

To be the devils advocate, MSNBC is even worse than Fox, while Fox is certainly a right leaning entertainment/news network, they at least bring in the other side in most of there story coverage (Though they tend to flatten them and subdue their opinions) MSNBC doesn't even cover any of that.

Both are opposite extremes here, that's why I tend to listen to foreign news like BBC and others since they have no real stake in what's going on in America, they just report the news. Al Jazeera is actually suprisingly good despite Fox' demonizing of them.

I listen to multiple news networks, MSNBC, CNN and FOX simply because you can't get the full scope on anything these days due to intentional bias' of the respective news networks or papers.

90% of the country of course just gobbles their shit up without actually doing any sort of digging to get facts, then they sound like an idiot when someone who actually does have an idea of the bigger picture comes along and crushes everything they were spoon fed.

Sensationalism sells people, it matters not which network is spewing their parties propaganda. They're all in it to push their own agendas and to make money.
