Does anyone know a bit about DSLR cameras?

I've been really interested in getting a nice camera...would invest the time to mess around with the exposure and various features, so I know this is the time of camera I'm looking for.

Budget wise, under 1000, (preferably 500-700). Does anyone know of some good cameras well priced?

Also- what's with cannon and nikon hating eachother? xD

I owned Nikon....very good, but my friend is in COllege for photography and uses ...cant remember...but her photos are amazing. uses a Nikon D3, D700, (school...) and Nikon D90 I believe is what she owns

A DLSR is generally not worth it unless you actually know to use things like aperture, exposure, shutter speed, and know what makes a photograph work (like what kind of lighting to use, rule of thirds, scene composition, etc.). The vast majority of people are better off with a nice point and shoot with manual controls like the s100 or something a little higher end like DMC-LX7.

I think she said thats why she wanted one...to mess around with that stuff...I hated doing that stuff in photography throughout high school...only reason I kept taking the class Photoshop.

Yeah, I would invest the time to learn, and I am an artist so I have an eye for photography :3
