This game is just so good. I just beat Anor Londo, and it has been years since I played a game with such a hard and satisfying boss battle. Besides the obvious difficulty problems and just not explaining a lot of things well, this game is just all around amazing.

chunckylover53

It's a sweet game and they just showed some gameplay of the second one yesterday.

Someday I will buy this game since it's pretty cheap. So much love for it around here >_>

i got to blightown and made it a long ways down until i jumped onto a platform that was actually just a piece of scenery and fell to my death. Rage quit for that day, got preoccupied with KotoR, then StarDrive.

I want Dark Souls, but I don't have it, or a computer good enough to run it Sad

I dont have enough patience for this game

Ars Diaboli

It's fucking fantastic. There need to be more games handing your ass down to you, instead of hodling your hand for every little stupid thing. Since Ninja Gaiden is dead, there's only the Souls series left for me :'(

Demon's Souls is better in gameplay and level design, though.

Kenshiro

Kenshiro

There's like, 3 people who have beat it.

I think.

Me chunk Ars and Metal.

Here's a link straight to the video of the DkS2 interview.

Looks more like DeS to me though.

ive watched a few videos and it seems like it hands your ass to you in totally bullshit ways on occasion. im ok with difficulty, but some of it seems to be difficult to the point of needing to be psychic to avoid some of the bullshit.

Let's see, the usual "bullshit" traps.

Hellkite on the bridge -> there's a bunch of charred corpses and oilslicks on the bridge.

Sen's arrow traps -> elevated floor panels, and there's a single one at the start that's really obvious, so you can tell what they look like.

Sen's mimic trap -> it breathes and moves very slightly. can be hard to see though.

Sen's elevator spikes -> there's a puddle of blood on the elevator.

Honestly as long as you don't run in expecting to slay mobs left and right, and actually take the time to notice stuff in your surroundings, you shouldn't die of bullshit.

I know I will sound like an elitist cunt, but that's not true. When you die, it's your fault. I went into Demon's Souls carefuly, being patient and observant and did well enough, with some trouble here and there (Fuck the tunnel spider, I had no bow or magic).

Ninja Gaiden 2 is a balls to the wall hard game that makes Dark Souls be a walk in the park, and even that game has very few bullshit deaths once you understand it.

The less familiar people are with the mechanics, the more bullshit it becomes.

And RNG, but that's just there to be a dick.

I've avoided this game because I feel like it would only succeeded in pissing me off.

But I have beaten Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 and didn't think they were extremely hard, granted it was on the default difficulty. So maybe I can handle it...

Well, that's the point I failed to make. Ninja Gaiden on default is... well, normal.

Mentor Mode in NG2 is a big difficulty spike most can't cope with. Then Master Ninja Mode comes, and the game seems impossible to beat. Like, literally impossible, you don't see how anyone could beat it.

And then there's Mission Mode.

I would say that Demon's/Dark Souls is like Ninja Gaiden 2 on Warrior/Normal.

Oh god...yeah, RNG fucks me over each and every time it gets a chance. I was playing through Fire Emblem 10 once, missed with an 80% chance that would've killed an enemy, only to die to the enemy's 1% crit chance, and 33% chance to hit me. I almost threw the remote across the room and didn't play for a day or two xD

There is some bullshit that is just bullshit though. I died from fall damage at 100% hp in BF3 once by stepping off of a ledge roughly about the height of a sidewalk curb.

chunckylover53

The only thing that i don't remember being able to clear by myself is Smough and Ornstein, everything else came in time.

The most bullshit in this game comes from the RNG of a certain boss fight, and the poor design of another boss fight (even the creators admit they fucked it up lol). On the topic of Fire Emblem, try playing any of them before 7. You will learn the definition of bullshit. (Looking at you FE5)

The closest game to Dark Souls would be Demon's Souls (!).

The closest series is Monster Hunter.

Duck

Duck

Monster Hunter has an extremely steep learning curve, but it's a short one. Basically until you figure out how things work you have zero chance of defeating even the easiest boss. But after that nothing is really hard.

Dark Souls just stays dick bustingly difficult the whole time. Even when you think you know what you're doing, something new happens.

smough and ornstien was bullshit,I couldn't do it solo

I'm guessing that was Radiant Dawn, right? That game was pretty hard, compared to the GBA Fire Emblems, and the GameCube one. Micaiah... ugh.

I still loved the fuck out of Path of Radiance + Radiant Dawn.

Yeah, those were my first FE games. I really loved the games a lot. I love how much personality goes into each character, especially considering the fact that when they die, they are completely gone (even removed from the story). Oh god, Dawn Brigade units are so bad it's disgusting...

Dropped Da Soap

Dropped Da Soap

What?!
The dawn Brigade (with the exception of Rolf Nd Mist, tbough Mist is decent) they ar e some of the strongest units if you take the time to use them.

There's only a few units with better growth then them. And you usually get them mid-gane meaning by the time you get them your units should already be just as strong as they are. Other then Nephenee, Ike, and 2-3 others, the rest are all pretty even. Though Nephenee on her own could stomp mostly damn near anything.

And you guys want a real RNG bitch, play Fire Emblem 2.She is a harsh and cruel mistress.

I got pretty far in Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones on GBA....man,good times with that game. An old friend showed it to me in 10th grade back in like 2008. He had it on an emulator and would always play it from his flash drive in spanish class lol, and he would have Foo Fighters "The Pretender" on repeat the whole time XD

You're the thinking of the Greil Mercenaries. The Dawn Brigade is Miciah's group: Useless Leonardo, late-game useless Sothe, useless Nolan, useless everything compared to the Greil Mercenaries, who are these beastly-rapetastic units. xD

Dropped Da Soap

Dropped Da Soap

Oh yeah, I always forget that there were two groups, always lumped them together.

But honestly, out of the whole group, Leonardo is the only one whos bad. And thats only because Shinon outclasses him in every way imaginable. And well thats not surprising since Shinon is on par with Nephenee in terms of over-powered-God-tier.

Edward only loses to Mia in terms of resistance and speed, but trumps her in most everything else.

Nolan is easily one of the strongest units you can get in the beginning of the game. And unlike most starter units, can hold his own more then perfectly endgame.

And Sothe, hell anyone not using Sothe is just gimping themselves.

And then Micaiah is easily one of the most overpowered units end game. Takes a lot to build up, but is essentially nigh-unstoppable end game.

While her group takes more work and is not as powerful as the Mercenaries, they are not to be easily discounted. Other then Leonardo they are all pretty damn strong with the right amount of work. While they aren't as powerful as the Mercenaries can get, they aren't that much weaker, and you can beat the game with them without having to use the GM's.

But yeah, the Mercs are just insanely powerful from the moment you get them, and are insane until you beat the game. Micaiah's group can get almost as powerful, but takes WAAAAY more patience to build up.

Ya'll need to play some of the older FE games. FE4 has an incredible story, mixed with really well done gameplay, while FE5 is possibly the hardest game I've ever played. FE10 is mediocre, and actually quite disappointing.

FE?

Fire Emblem?

Dropped Da Soap

Dropped Da Soap

Yup. And I have played every FE but 1, and 6(the one before Blazing Sword). I've tried playing 6 multiple times, but my rom always crashed or my sav. file deleted.

Kitsune

Kitsune

Yeah, my Dawn Brigade units all stayed pretty weak except for Michaiah who got ridiculously strong. Most of the other's fell behind; I rage quit trying to train Edward after watching him get his ass beat and restarting a level for the millionth time. He's absolutely horrible at the beginning, yet I've heard that he can get very strong. I did, however, use Rolf instead of Shinnon in PoR and RD just for fun, and he actually got fairly strong for me.

Ars Diaboli

Ars Diaboli

The Greil Mercenaries are retarded strong. I would just stomp everything with them. The only units stronger than them were the laguz leaders, but those were just overpowered. Nilah, Tibarn, etc.

I disagree in Radiant Dawn being mediocre. I hated how they removed the awesome support conversations from the other games, but all in all it was a very good game. Path of Radiance + Radiant Dawn have a pretty amazing story. I don't remember the details, but I liked it, at least more than most games. Then again, good stories isn't something games are known for.

Also, fuck the Fail Brigade.

Kitsune

Kitsune

I play games a lot for the story, actually. :p

Support conversations open up so much about the games story though. Like, it would have been a perfect opportunity to explain how everyone in the Dawn Brigade met, how they learned to fight, etc. There's so much wasted potential, especially with such a massive cast of characters.

Also, the whole thing with different groups of characters was a real piss off. By the end of Part 1, the Dawn Brigade is FINALLY shaping up to be a group of decent fighters (Except for Leo), and then whoosh, don't see them for like 15 Chapters.

Even if the plot isn't that bad, it's nowhere near as good as Fire Emblem 4.

Don't forget that when you finally get to re-control the Dawn Brigade, they're absolutely worthless/awful because they're so underleveled unless you pay the bonus points to level them up.

Exactly. And speaking of bonus xp, that's another thing that irks me. For those that don't know, when you level up using bonus xp, you will ALWAYS get three stats. No more, no less (unless you have too many caps, in which case, less). This basically means you can make characters get almost every stat capped, since they'll cap most of their stats with good growth rates by the time they hit third tier, and you can cap the rest via bonus xp. This makes the end game a cake walk for the most part.
