it's done this to me off and on for awhile now, all it could be is the HDD because I know my pc is good enough lol....

windows says I have zero bad sectors and everything is good when I run chkdsk in the command prompt

like for example it locked up the whole computer for a few seconds when I tried to launch bf3, but 99% of the time when it locks up randomly it's just surfing the internet

Does it make a beep noise once it unfreezes?

no beeping or any sounds from the hdd....the boot and startup times have always been fast to me

it's just randomly maybe when I go to a new website, like the other night it locked up for like 10 seconds when I went to this site

check your processes in task manager. look for a process/es called ''Consent.Exe''.

it caused my dads laptop to freeze when trying to open certain applications. the .exe is part of the UAC, and slows your computer down a lot of it goes wring Razz

Depending on your CPU, look at thermal throttling some CPU's slow them selves down when overheating.

Can you move your mouse when it locks up? Does it unlock on it's own or do you have to reboot?

I dunno why but I really want a Pepsi right about now

I can move the mouse and it unlocks on it's own, after like 10 seconds. I did a virus scan, thinking it was the antivirus automatically updating causing it so I turned that to manual and it hasn't locked up since. Really weird, I have no other signs of HDD failure, windows says the disk health is good and everything

I use google chrome if that matters Razz

and use the Commodo dragon firewall

cpu usage is only 5%

Check your ram using something like Memtest86.

seems like once a day, it hasn't done it since it's been on today though, maybe it was the firewall checking for automatic updates causing it. I'll look into creating the boot usb for memtest86

JrTapia1991

JrTapia1991

it never did it today,I think it was damn comodo dragon firewall automatically checking for updates too much

I use Comodo too

It causes me some problems....

Try uninstalling it for a day.

ever since I disabled automatic updates for the comodo firewall/antivirus it hasn't locked up or frozen at all so I'm 99.9% sure that's what the problem was. Weird,I don't remember it doing that to my very crappy single core laptop
