As many of us know, several weapons are being introduced into BF4 as "combat/battlefield pickups"

These weapons currently include the M32 semi auto grenade launcher, USAS-12 shotgun and M82 Barrett semi auto .50 BMG anti-material rifle.

From what is known about these weapons, they will be placed strategically around the map, at pre-set fixed locations and will be a one time use (meaning they have x amount of ammo, and once it's gone it's gone. They cannot be replenished by ammo boxes)

While I applaud DICE for trying to come up with interesting new features to change up their game, I fear these weapons, the M82 in particular may be detrimental to the game. Not in the sense that they would be overpowered, no. My primary point of concern is that the Ayer base will now put greater emphasis on obtaining said weapons instead of actually going for the objectives. Camping the weapons spawn point I hoping to get their hands on these "über" guns so to speak. I can already see swarms of soldiers flocking to these pre-set zones trying hard as they might to get said firearm.

While its currently unclear whether or not it will be a first come first serve basis for these weapons or if it will be on a continuous tea pawn timer regardless of how many of them are curre try in at, I simy hope it doesn't turn into a massive camp fest with people bickering over who gets the .50 cal next.

What's your guys/gals thoughts on this?

I think it's fine If they have limited ammo like you said. The only one I would really worry about is the GL. If people keep getting their hands on that one it could get annoying depending how much ammo they have and how powerful the grenades are.

And I don't think there will be that many people camping them. I know personally I'm not too excited about any of those weapons.

I dont really give a crap about them

Its a cool addition imo

Like Hydra said, I doubt Ill be using them much anyways.

Likewise, the .50 is cool but...impractical? I'll likely just stick with my AK5 and M98B when running Recon

But ultimately I just worry about the idiots camping the .50 and being worthless

Easy kills

I doubt they'll be a problem. They're either too far out of the way to be camped, or in the middle of a kill zone so camping for them would just be a death sentence.

The USAS is pretty nuts though. It's the pre-nerf BF3 frag rounds and it shoots through most walls. i believe you get 2 magazines with all the power weapons.

also AFAIK from the alpha, the M82 is a OHK anywhere, any range and does 15 damage a shot to light armor/aircraft.

OHK anywhere?

Damn I dont think I like that

Idiots would camp the UAV station all the time, and I just ignored it. All most people would ever do with it was not spot anything, launch a missile, and get knifed.

I can see MANY MANY problems with OHK anywhere anyrange with M82, especially in the hands of good shooters.

Slightly related to above, but derailing a bit, I still remember the days of early BF3 where there was a physics bug that instantly killed sprinting players that are hit by any sniper rifle bullet (or I think anything above certain amount of damage in a single shot, and sniper rifles were the only ones that qualified this), where I could just murder wave after wave of people wanting to sprint around everywhere trying to engage only in CQB. I actually thought it was a great system that prevents or discourages people from sprinting everywhere, but shortly later it was revealed to be a bug. But knowing how 'easy' it was to achieve kills on sprinting enemies with this bug, OHK'ing someone with M82 on targets that are in any state would be even easier.

Also, I pretty much do not accept 'power weapon' 'pick ups' unless its Quake style deathmatch.

The piles of tanks, helicopters and other death machines all over are all more powerful than any single use weapon anyone is going to pick up. So I really don't see how it could matter.

The vehicles in BF series and the 'power weapon' are different in sense that vehicles are available for both sides and are more often than not completely equal in performance apart from cosmetic difference. Being able to pick up a tank or helicopter does not put a player at a complete advantage over another player who has done the same thing. However, a player holding a 'power weapon' has complete advantage over another player that does not.

'Power weapon' is there to actually funnel players in old style arcade FPS and give them a reason to move around, rather than camp out. Without it players would have pretty much no reason to move, especially in deathmatch scenario. So, 'power weapon' in BF4's deathmatch style mode would be actually fine. But I just cannot accept it being in any objective mode.

Yes, but a player with a "power vehicle" holds a massive advantage over a player without a vehicle.

Much more so than a player with a "power weapon" does.

I just don't see the problem. These weapon drops are basically no different than adding another fighting vehicle into the game that isn't as powerful as the ones already in and with limited ammo.

I dont mind the weapon drops

Metal's got it right. The people who grab these things are going to be massive targets.

I don't like it. But I'll just get used to it I guess.

Does it announce to everyone when they have been picked up?

Ante

I don't think so but there's an icon that shows up on the map when they're available to be picked up.

I can see lots and lots of people camping that .50 cal

Should be easy kills for the rest of us.

I don't think so. I can't think of any reason it should, it doesn't call out anytime someone hops in a tank or helicopter.

I imagine when they're spotted it has a special call-out though such as: "Soldier to the NW and he's got a fucking USAS. Shit!"

Kinda funny they made the USAS a power weapon

DICE has a sick twisted sense of humor.

Shit was crazy in BF3 before the nerf

Dem frag rounds

I don't think its a big deal. Halo works fine with objectives and you don't see people always camping for the rocket launcher.

Not to mention this will be 64 players on consoles and PC, so no matter what you're playing on, having 4 guys fighting over the M82 won't mean a quarter of your team doing nothing.

metro was so fun with frag rounds and insta kill famas lol
