Okay, I've been reading forums and so on, trying to figure out a means to fix the excessive screen tearing that I'm getting in the game. At max graphics it twitches and jutters all over the place and really mires the games beauty.

Vsync seems to tame it down, adjusting monitor refresh rate to 60 hertz doesn't seem to do anything, and every once in a while the game randomly BSOD's my computer.

I'm at a loss here, for a game that won so many accolades, it sure has a crap ton of optimization issues.

Anyone else here have the game and know of any solutions? All my GPU drivers and what have you are up to date, so it's certainly not my PC. SLI GTX 570's should be so far above what is required to run at max that graphics stutter shouldn't be happening.

Have you tried disabling SLi? You should try that first, and see if there is any improvement.

Also, instead of vsync, just try frame rate limit to your refresh rate (or your average fps). Its not as good as vsync for solving screen tearing, but its better than it fluctuating randomly.

Funny thing is, SLi was disabled when the screen tearing was at its worst. Now I can barely play 5-10 minutes without the damn game BSOD'ing my PC with an error code 116.

Looking it up, it appears to be a GPU or hardware issue, which makes absolutely no sense since my PC has ample cooling and the dusted it yesterday.

They're using ATI cards, so I don't know what to do with my nVidia cards in this case. I'm also having issues trying to find a means to hard cap my FPS in the game.

Here's the thread from 2010

The solution that worked in that threat is basically underclocking your card.

Thats solution for cards with cooling defects.

Your cards dont have any problems in other games right?

You can use nvidia inspector to limit your fps.

hmm...weird. Does it do it even on medium or high instead of ultra? I never heard of that problem with the game. I had a bad problem of stalker call of pripyat with screen tearing even with it forced on in catalyst control center and no help >_>

The Witcher is the only game that I have this issue. I've played games with much heavier draws on my GPU's at max graphics without any issues. If memory serves, it crashes even while playing at medium graphics. I will have to try it again later.

I'll download nVidea inspector and see if limiting the FPS helps

So what kind of BSOD's are you getting? A BSOD almost always indicates a hardware, not software problem. Do you think you could run a couple of GPU benchmarks to rule out it is not on your end? I would recommend furmark and the new 3DMark.

Stop error 116

Common error among most players of both Witcher games. I don't see why it would be a GPU problem when everything else I play and run has never given me issues.

I can run Guild Wars II at max graphics albeit with some horrible FPS drops because my processor is bottle necking.

I can try 3d benchmark and see, but I'm pretty sure my GPU's are not the issue. Will have to test and see.

Could it be a ram issue?
