Papakura police said they were considering what kind of "Darwin" award is appropriate after the the incident.
Police said they were called to the local Countdown at about 6.45pm last night after reports that a group of youths were intimidating customers and washing windows in the carpark.
The group fled when police arrive and one 14-year-old boy tried to evade officers by climbing over a nearby fence on the edge of the carpark, but scaled a fence that surrounded the Papakura Police Station
"Unsurprisingly, he was quickly apprehended," said Area Commander Jim Searle.
Mr Searle said any attempts to evade police could be dangerous and could often lead to further trouble.
"But this situation would have to stand out as unusual in the way that this person was caught."
The group of young people have been referred to Youth Aid.
