[FONV] When should I stop, to be able to easily switch between factions? *possible spoiler*

In this play through, I am trying to save the game before having to choose factions.

I think as soon as you have your first successful encounter with Benny, you have given an amnesty to every faction. I wonder whether this continues until you decide to join one, or do you lose this by doing harmful actions against them?

If I get perfect amnesty (which I doubt) I guess I do not have to worry too much about roaming freely after meeting Benny for the first time (and maybe last).

If I do not have the freedom, I guess I should try to do everything else as much as I can before I even meet him.

Also, I kind of forgot when you actually get Luck 38 Presidential Suite, is it just before encounter with Benny (just after meeting House), or is it after meeting him?

The only time you can't join a faction is when they hate you. For example, if you do the Yes Man quests, the game will warn you that Caesar's Legion/NCR will hate you and shoot you on site if you keep doing Yes Man quests. The same goes for Working with NCR, and then Caesar's Legion hating you.

You can always go back to Yes Man, as there is no way for him to hate you, since he is programmed to obey you. I don't know how House works, though. I think you can go with him as long as you don't kill him, but I'm not sure what happens if you fail one of the "House Always Wins" quests.

You get the suite after talking to House for the first time.

Can the hated status be achieved just by normal gameplay, without storyline or by Yes Man?

For example, just killing a bunch of Legion, while you are wondering in Mojave.

Also, it seems like you only fail House Always Wins if you decide to

.

So, I think House and YM are probably longest lasting factions without having to do much.

I think you get locked down for a faction AFTER you get the boomers to side with somebody.

Does Mr. House give you a quest that deals with the Boomers?

It is his standard main quest. It is either 3 or 4 of house always wins.

Anyway, as my previous post asked, is the hated status different from regular killing of the faction?

The hated status is different. If you do quests for Yes Man/House, the NCR won't shoot you on sight, they just won't let you do their quests. If you do Caesar's Legion quests, they shoot you on sight.

The warnings the game gives you are these two quests:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Don%27t_Tread_on_the_Bear!

Also, I think GM is right. You fail those warning quests when you do the Boomers quest for your faction.

I actually was able to get the Boomer quest done, and moved onto For the Republic Part 2, while siding Boomer on my side. I think Boomers are siding with the main character, not with any particular faction. So they are following character's orders not faction leader's.

Anyway about status question.

If you kill WHOLE bunch of legion soldiers wondering in the desert (usually happens due to having Boone as my companion mostly), after getting amnesty, would I not be able to do quest later on for Caesar?

Technically I do not really have much to do with Caesar's Legion anyway, so if I cannot side with him, whatever.

I meant getting the Boomers to join a faction by talking to Pearl after doing Volare!.

I'm not sure about the second part. Why worry about how Caesar's Legion feels about you if Boone is your follower anyway? Try going to the Fort without Boone and see if they shoot you on sight.

They won't shoot me. Though I am planning to do a lot of side quest before trying to get to the main quests, after arriving at the strip.

And I think talking to Boomers can work with any side I am going to be factioned in (not sure about Caesar) since I had the option of telling NCR that Boomer is on our side, though in reality, I had it done while I was doing House quests (got the Boomer part for NCR AFTER the house quest was completed, so did not have to do much and moved onto Part 2).

Ok. I think I figured this out.

Quests / Action that would completely lock you after completing.

House Always Wins 4
For the Republic, Part 2
Render Unto Caesar (second part)
Install Yes Man

I realized that you can go around killing EVERYTHING and anything as you please, before you arrive at the strip, since the status gets reset to Neutral when you are given amnesty from NCR and Caesar. After you arrive in the strip and talk to House for the first time, NCR gives amnesty, and when you deal with Benny for the first time, Caesar gives amnesty.

I should have left Benny alone and went around killing whole bunch of Legions, and invade Nelson, without having suffer the failing of the quest Render Unto Caesar for leaving my options open.

Oh well, now I know. At least I can still use this playthrough to see NCR and Yes Man ending.

I have been told to raise the B29.
This starts the point of no return?
Because if that's the case, I'm going to do a bunch of different quests, first.

No, you can do that regardless of which path you choose to do.

Since it is not hurting anyone, but helping the player character.

At least I think that is how the system interprets. I did it and still am fine.

Boomers are definitely sided by the player character, not a faction. Speech / Quest options follow along with both House, NCR, and Yes Man. Not sure about Legion, but I have a feeling they would just make me go and massacre all of them myself anyway. LoL

It seems that the option follows to whatever path the character is trying to take.
