I've been attempting to learn coding (HTML, I think) from Youtube, but it's confusing when you can't ask questions. And my only friend that knows it is... weird... So anyway, winter break is coming up in two weeks, does anyone have the patience to teach it to me? Please?

Need to have at least done algebra 1 (algebra 2 recommended) so if you haven't do not even try. Also what do you want to do with html?

Maybe for programming languages but for HTML that shouldn't matter, it's just a markup language.

This site should be a good starting tutorial for HTML: http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp

A lot of people also use CSS to format their HTML pages, I haven't used it too much myself: http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_css.asp

You need that much algebra knowledge for HTML? That's a joke.. because it's one of the most simplest languages made. HTML isn't hard to learn and if you do use youtube, just leave a comment and someone normally replys.

I learned HTML by screwing around with Dreamweaver. You can use the tools to create things, and then study the HTML. Personally, I think application is the best method of learning.

You could probably get a cheap copy on Amazon, just shoot for one of the older ones.

Sorry for the slight de-rail but:

Who's Dreamweaver?

i am. and boy did we do some screwing around, amirite? *eyebrowaggle*

srsly though, it's a website making tool. way awesomer than coding by hand, but tends to bork things a smidge when you upload the html code, but usually with slight tweakage you can get it all to correlate smooth enough.

Doing HTML in notepad by hand is a major pain in the ass.

I can teach you probably or atleast answer questions you have.

Algebra is not needed...its just knowing the codes to type in thats a pain.

And dreamweaver will make your life much easier. Its a program where you basically put whatever you want, where ever you want on a page and it does to coding for you. So instead of doing all the coding to get a textbox to say "This text box" and put it midway down the page on the right side in HTML code, you can just put the box there on the page without doing coding.

My teacher made us learn the code by hand first then is like "see how much of a pain in the ass this is? Now try this..." and gave us dreamweaver lol

what I did was find the source code for a lot of diffrent sites and break em apaert and see what things do what, I ran into problems due to jquary, dhtml, and .js thoug to save some trouble, id deff get ahold of a copy of dreamweaver. I'm getting one for myself here soon.

Wait....you did this whole site without dreamweaver?

Damn...

What does Dreamweaver run cost wise?

Erkeric

Not sure...I dont have it on any of my PCs...just the ones at school.

Edit: Damn....the newest version is $400 and 200 to upgrade to it.

Edit 2: Damn again....you can get that with 2 other programs...a Flash one and something else for $1700....

The host site gives some useful tools, like html and css spreadsheets...but its easier to use .js and what not. So I can keep back ups and don't have to should each time.
It was migrain central at first...i had never even attempted html before.

Quanta Plus is a good free alternative if you happen to have Linux. It seems to be just as good as Dreamweaver to me.

There's a commercial version of it too called Quanta Gold that also works on Windows and Mac . It's only $40 which is probably the amount that you pay for tax on Dreamweaver.

I can probably help you out too. I've been coding HTML since I was like, twelve and never knew Dreamweaver existed so I hand coded everything, haha. I use Dreamweaver or something similar now so it takes me less time, but I prefer hand coding so I can help you out some if you go that route Smile

Yay, I'm good at remembering codes! I don't really feel like paying for a coding program, though... I wasn't planning on getting a job involving coding.

Also, strangely that nerd (he even has the nasally voice!) that I'm friends with is bad at Algebra 1. Interesting.

Way off topic: Cool, my neighbor's on her roof, stringing Christmas lights. I wish my parents would let me visit the roof. I've never gone up there yet. Sad

Oh I did not know that html was that easy but again I have no use for it so why bother.

If he is bad at algebra 1 then he is not a nerd but a poser.
