That would probably work better than how we are doing it now. That and if the sun comes out it dries everything out and causes the fires to get a lot bigger.

We're using torches to light everything up and if you aren't careful carrying them them you might accidentally pour a diesel/gas mixture on yourself which would be bad.

I caught my leg on fire once...it was kind of funny.


Intentional grass fire sounds kind of fun though...good luck with it....dont let it get out of control....

I did some shit similiar to that in my intership as a park ranger crazy stuff. Do you have to wear one of those huge water sprayer/backpack things too?

We brought some water sprayers just in case. We had 2 on atvs and 1 backpack one in case we had to go deeper into the woods to put something out.


It's not too dangerous, as long as you don't box yourself in by burning a circle around yourself.


Also, I like fire too but that smoke can really get to you.

Yah the controlled burn I was on was safe but there was a really freaky moment I experienced. What happened was I had to go back to the truck to refill my water tank and doing so had to walk in the middle of both fires going on with smoke so thick I couldn't see, had to cover my mouth and eyes and just had to judge how close I was by the heat. Obviously nothing bad happened just a fun and frightening moment at the same time.

yeah, its called swailing in the UK. you burn back overgrowth and make space for new plants to grow.

theres loads of patches of blackened earth on the moors where the bracken and ferns have been swailed.
