You guys know I love movies and stuff so I figured I'd make this.

Quotes, movie discussion, recommendations, appreciation whatever...

I'll start with 2 movies that I'm sure you guys have seen, if not I'm recommending them.

True Romance Director's Cut

Oldman, Slater, Walken, Hopper, Pitt, Arquette, all put in amazing performances. A lot of memorable lines and scenes. Watch out for Balki Bartokomous as a cocaine middle man (that's enough to watch it on it's own.) Oldman steals the show and he's not even in it for 10 minutes!

I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood. You tell the
angels in heaven you never seen evil so singularly personified as you
did in the face of the man who killed you. My name is Vincent Coccotti. I
work as counsel for Mr. Blue Lou Boyle, the man your son stole from. I
hear you were once a cop so I can assume you've heard of us before. Am I
correct?

The Professional International Cut

Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, Natalie Portman (her first role), Danny Aiello, awesome movie and the International Cut adds a lot of extra stuff that helps (imo) flesh out the characters a bit. Oldman steals the show again as he toes the line of over the top. Lot of good acting and action and a nice film that shows a relationship between 2 unlikely people who's paths cross due to a tragedy.

I like these calm little moments before the storm. It reminds me of
Beethoven. Can you hear it? It's like when you put your head to the
grass and you can hear the growin' and you can hear the insects. Do you
like Beethoven?

The Thing

Considered by some as one of the greatest horror movies ever made. One of John Carpenter's greatest works that combines scares, drama, and some great special effects.

Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley (The quaker oats man), TK Carter, and Keith David round out a dynamite cast and tells the story of a group of men that are isolated in Antartica that encounter a shape-shifting alien capable of creating perfect copies of whatever it touches.

This movie has a lot of tension and plays off of the trust or lack thereof among the group.

Awesome effects, great story and some memorable lines. Holds up well for a movie that's over 20 years old.

I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the

Rushmore (1998)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0128445/

Probably my favorite Wes Anderson film, I love everything about this film. Jason Schwartzman plays Max Fischer, a teenager that struggles to find himself while attending the private school Rushmore. He's a likable character most of the time but has some flaws that lead to some great comedic moments. The movie takes us through a full school year following Max while he goes through the ups and downs on being a teenager including falling for a teacher at his school played by Olivia Williams.

Bill Murray plays Herman Blume, a rich man Rushmore alum that befriends Max after speaking at his school. They develop a friendship that gets rocky when Herman falls for the same teacher that Max is pining for. It goes without saying the Murray delivers a brilliant, memorable performance that you won't soon forget.

Lots on good themes in this movie from love to friendship to not being ashamed of your background. It also feature a great soundtrack with artists such as The Kinks,The Who and Cat Stevens.

I urge you guys to check it out and to not be put off by what appears to be an artsy, pretentious movie.

You guys have it real easy. I never had it like this where I grew up.
But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best
schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't
matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my
advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in
the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything
but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.

Falling Down (1993)
Movie Topic (Quotes, discussions, etc) Falling_Down_DVD
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106856/

Joel Schumacher directs this movie about an average guy that's reached his breaking point. Michael Douglas plays William Foster, a man that over the course of a day gets fed up with everyday problems and decides to take matters into his own hands. Right off the bat I'll say the movie is a bit over the top, but that's what makes it work imo.

The movie starts out with William Fosterenduring a problem that we can all relate to: a traffic jam. Deciding that he can't take it anymore he leaves his car on the freeway and the adventure begins. I won't go into details for fear of spoilers but let's just say that he has interesting ways of dealing with everyday problems including neighborhood gangs, bloated prices in a local corner store, and more. His main goal is to make it to his daughter's birthday party. He's divorced from his wife (played by Barbara Hershey) and she's had a restraining order put out against him.

Foster's antics get the attention of the police which leads to a detective (played by Robert Duvall),to start investigating his actions. Duvall's character also has a smallside story that involves him being close to retirement as well as
having to cope with a wife (played by Tuesday Weld) that is dealing with the loss of their daughter.

The movie takes place in LA on a very hot day and it does a good job of
providing a suffocating atmosphere as well follow Foster around from place to place as he becomes more and more unwound.

I'd recommend this to anyone who's ever felt like raging at the bullshit that they have to endure on a day to day basis.

I've passed the point of no return. Do you know what that is, Beth?
That's the point in a journey where it's longer to go back to the
beginning. It's like when those astronauts got in trouble. I don't know,
somebody messed up, and they had to get them back to Earth. But they
had passed the point of no return. They were on the other side of the
moon and were out of contact for like hours. Everybody waited to see if a
bunch of dead guys in a can would pop out the other side. Well, that's
me. I'm on the other side of the moon now and everybody is going to have
to wait until I pop out.

What's so awesome about that movie is that, while the guy is going over the top rage crazy, you can't help but sympathize, because we've all wanted to react in a similar way. I also liked how the detective's reactions to what is going on in his life are totally opposite.

Gang Member #1:
Whatcha doin' Mister?

Bill Foster:
Nothing.

Gang Member #1:
Yes you are man, you're trespassing on private property.

Bill Foster:
Trespassing?

Gang Member #2:
You're loitering too, man.

Gang Member #1:
That's right, you're loitering too.

Bill Foster:
I didn't see any signs.

Gang Member #1:
[pointing at a graffiti skull] Whatcha call that?

Bill Foster:
Graffiti.

Gang Member #1:
No man, that's not fucking graffiti. That's a sign.

Gang Member #2:
He can't read it man.

Gang Member #1:
I'll read it for you. It says this is fucking private property. No fucking trespassing. This means fucking you.

Bill Foster:
It says all that?

Gang Member #1:
Yeah.

Bill Foster:
Well, maybe if you wrote it in fucking English, I could fucking understand it.
