Avoid going to MEPS more than once. It is a complete bore. It's all hurry up and wait. Really boring stuff. Oh. And make sure you clean out your damn ears before the doc sees you so you don't have to make a third trip up there.

I decided that I would be a lazy ass civi and not have to worry about any of that. I have a real problem with people telling me what to do especially if they are screaming at me so military life would not work for me.

Where? What? Ears?

Apparently I had a little wax build up in my ears. The doc couldn't look at my eardrums. Everything else is green. Now I need to go to the doctor to get them cleaned, (That's exactly what they told me) take the confirmation letter to my Sarge, have him mail it to MEPS, waste 3 hours of my time and gas to drive up there to have my ears checked again and be sworn in. Which would have taken about 20 minutes. Ah well. I'm going to have my dad come up and watch. I love making him proud.

Yeah, my first time to MEPS my recruiter didn't tell me I was actually being set up to swear in. I just wanted to take the test.

I'm getting ready for a second run, and this time I'm ready to swear in. Trying to do a delayed entry till September when things start to cool down. Basic training in San Antonio would be a pain otherwise.

What branch are you going into? I'm going Airforce, was contemplating Army at one point but decided against it. Got one of my best friends in Afghanistan right now as an intelligence analyst looking at all the photos and making notes on what is going on before they go to the commander and what have you.

The whole yelling thing isnt an issue for me. So what youre supposed to do, do it fast and right and theyll have less reason to scream at you. Its also good to remember that it's their job to do this, they're training soldiers, they can't have you going off doing something else just because you don't like how you were asked or the particular task or individual. In short, they're paid to be an arse.

By the way MEPS stands for Military Examination and Processing Station. It's where you go to take your ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational and Aptitude Battery if memory serves) a test to see what you're good at, as well as your over all physical abilities and to verify to don't have any illegal drugs or diseases in your system. All the major branches send new recruit candidates there before sending them to basic. You also pick several jobs that you qualified for. No guarantee that you'll get the one you want, but you'll usually be given at least one of the five listed

I laugh when I hear these kids from school bragging how their recruiter is going to set them up with this sweet job because they're so special, they won't go and see combat and they'll just have a unique little niche and a nice salary.

They don't seem to realize recruiters are salesmen and once you're in they do whatever they want with you.

Honestly I overheard this average joe at school today talking about how he's going to be a "debriefer" and apparently he'll eventually make his way up to debriefing "the general" and making huge bank. Sounds a little far fetched IMO, as far as him actually getting that high up.

I'm going Army. After SOI in Benning, I'm going to sign up for Ranger training, which my recruiter assured me it's one of those things that's harder not to get in. Then maybe after a few years, try and join the Green Berets, then Delta. I got two things more to say.

There was this kid who had actual man titties and everything hanging out and he passed the bodyfat thing. Me and this other kid stared at each other and whispered "wooooow," to each other It pissed both of us off, and we couldn't figure out how. Then we found out he was going to the National "Tards". Which, I am sorry, but I have little respect for 'em. Getting paid military wages to walk around with a gun in this country.

The other thing that made me and a few of the guys laugh. When the docs had us strip down to our skivvies, this one dude was not told he was doing this. So guess what he had on...
Spoiler:

But good luck with the Air Force. My uncle was a fighter pilot back in the day, and I have very high respect for him, and those people, being able to get over the fear of hights.

A friend of mine is going into the Air Force and was just up there too. Were you at Pittsburgh? If so he was probably there somewhere with you, haha. He has to go back up because he apparently didn't take his health records because his recruiter told him not to and then he ended up needing them. I have heard so many people say they have to go up several times, haha.
