Air Supremacy

Our story begins like any other. 10 years ago a young boy full of anticipation and wonder opens a peculiarly large rectangular Christmas present. With sweaty palms and a watering mouth, he shreds the Santa Claus-embroidered wrapping paper from the gift. Inside is a culmination of the child's hopes and dreams; A brand new Playstation 2. The boy can hardly contain himself as he opens the next gift, this one much smaller and narrower than the first. The boy is puzzled as to what is can be, and the writing on the box further fuels his curiosity. Devil May Cry.

That boy was me 10 years ago as I began one of the most epic gaming odysseys of all time. It's been 4 main titles and many years since we were first introduced to Dante and the rest of the Devil May Cry cast. It seems that Capcom will be introducing its fifth main game of the series sometime next year or possibly this fall. The following footage was taken from last year's Tokyo Game Show, which shows off Ninja Theory's prequel to the smash hit Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening.

Now, before you empty the contents of your stomach into the nearest trash receptacle, please share you opinions based on the trailer.

1 was really good.

2 was not that great at all. The level design and difficulty factors went straight out the window, as well as Dante's personality. It was rushed and you could tell.

3 was by far the best in my opinion. The style system was perfected, the story was great, and the combat was astounding. Special addition added Turbo and Vergil mode, which are awesome too.

4 actually wasn't that bad. Some people flamed it for having Nero as the lead instead of Dante, but his character wasn't too bad and his combat style was unique and awesome. However, the sheer amount of backtracking, repeat boss battles, and lack of an option to play the story through as either Dante or Nero only did hurt the game. It was a little bit rushed too, but not to the point where it was a major problem (Like 2).

I'm not ready for this Dante. This isn't the Dante I've known and kicked ass with with. This is a wanna-be Dante.

DMC4 was good, the backtracking did suck, but it was one way with one guy, and the other way with the other guy. Forced you to rethink how you fought with each enemy.

Emo Dante.

And that is all that I have to say about this.

As a side note, I don't know what I'll play for hack and slash now... the next Ninja Gaiden is all done by the new director Hayashi, and I'd first trust Frost to always have vehicle smoke on than that guy making a good game by himself. I fear a dumbed down NG. DMC4 was all right, but looking at Dante is enough to not want DMC5, and I don't think there will be Bayonetta 2.

In my opinion it goes like this .. 1>3>2>4

I liked how 2 atleast gave us that other chick to play as was neat.

In the first one i liked how Dante had some seriousness(especially in the last battle when he demon eye'd Mundus)
but he still had his jokeing self.

The 3rd special edition was cool playing as vergil but i mean you had to buy the special edition for it... So yeah i own the 3rd and the 3rd special edition Razz.

The 4th felt so recycled. You go back and forth with the same bosses. I did enjoy fighting Sanctus as Dante.
I liked Pandora's Box and Gilgamesh though awesome weapons.

I'll take the role of Devil's Advocate here:

I'm ready to give this a chance, By all accounts this is a teaser trailer and I feel the action sequences show pretty much exactly how Dante would fight. Albeit his moves seem a little rougher or a bit more brutal compared to his usual smooth as silk fighting style. But he's also an adolescent and "coming of age" so it seems ok to me so far.

The biggest thing you immediately notice is the absents of the full head of white hair, replaced by a "shock" of white hair like a skunk. I think by the time you finish the game though, he'll be full white, and everything will be right in the world.

I'm more interested in how he's wielding the sword of Sparda? That sword is SICK but I hope it's not going to be the only weapon your able to use ala DMC4's red queen.

Dante doesn't even talk through out the whole trailer, so I'm not sure why everyone thinks he's so EMO? Cause he's smoking and has black hair? Because he's skinny?

Really?

I'd call him more street urchin/grunge/punk than anything else, he looks battered and bruised, dirty and malnurished to me which equals homeless street kid... which is basically what he is at this point.

Regarding the prequal comment, I thought I saw an interview that Ninja Theory basically said that this was a "different universe" type deal? I could be totally wrong here though, I saw it awhile ago.

I'm willing to give DMC a shot, don't get me wrong. I want this to succeed, I don;t like how he looks at all, but if the combat is good, I'll be all over it.
